CARDIFF CITY have confirmed they want to land Coventry defender Ben Turner before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.
The Bluebirds are understood to have offered £750,000 for the 6ft 4ins Turner, plus out-of-favour striker Jon Parkin.
But the two clubs had not agreed a fee last night and sources at Coventry said the major stumbling block is Parkin’s wage demands.
Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay confirmed Cardiff’s interest in Turner, saying: “It is something we are trying to get done and we are in talks with Coventry.”
Turner, who has played for England at under-19 level and also qualifies to play for Wales, suffered knee ligament damage which required an operation last season.
He hasn’t played since November, but he has made over 80 appearances for Coventry and has nearly three years left on his contract at the Ricoh Arena.
Mackay is keen to add to the options he has at the heart of his defence.
He recently enquired about Nottingham Forest’s highly-rated centre-half, Luke Chambers, but that deal looks to have stalled with the Bluebirds now turning their attention to Turner.
Mackay has said he is looking to bring in up to four new faces as he continues to rebuild his squad.
The transfer window may close on Wednesday, but the loan window then opens a week later.
