Player ratings v Brighton

Thu Aug 18, 2011 8:02 pm

Im always interested in how views differ on players, so how would you rate each players performance last night>?

Marshall - 6 - conceded 3, not sure he was at fault and distribution decent enough

McNaughton - 5 - passing and crossing was awful worst ive seen from him but what he lacked he made up with effort and work rate. Not his day but always an asset.
Hudson - 5 - Penalty he gave away was terrible, truely awful, otherwise OK
Gerrard - 4 - Seems to make a mistake every game and its costing us now.
Taylor - 5 - tried, bit of a non-event of a game, got forward ok

Cowie - 5 - looked lost a bit, tucked in but also went to wide and left massive wholes in the middle. Worked hard.
Whitts - 6 - seemed massively isolated and overrun, passing was decent and was the only person i felt would score.
Conway - 5 - awful touch last night, some good and some poor crosses, not his night

Mason - 5 - something worked and some didnt, tried and tried but like Cowie looked a little lost at times.
Earnshaw - 5 - looked bright worked hard and held the ball up as well as you would expect earnie to.
Miller - 3 - a few quality touches but gave the ball away far to often and offers nothing atm.

Rudy 5 - maybe it was because he came on late but felt we looked like something might happen when he came on, wins every ball in the air and miller even looked a little brighter with him.

David Bishop said on Real radio tonight that he thought Gerrard & Hudson had a good game last night---he must have been pissed

Huds was abit unfortunate with the pen. Lino didnt look like he was giving it. The ref seemed to be wearing green and black at some points mind. Question i have to him is if it was a pen surely Huds should have been booked at least as he denied a goalscoring opportunity and was the last man :?

i thought conway had a better game than whitts tbh, for the sheer reason that whitts was being marked out of the game completely and could not get forward at all :(

I saw the penalty for the first time today and it was a pretty dodgy decision IMO - Mackail-Smith looked to have gone down pretty easily !

like i said, if it was a pen then Huds should have been booked for denying a goal scoring opportunity. The ref seemed wank though tbh! One of the first games ive come out of the ground saying that the lino's made better calls than the ref :(

Some harsh marks and word there fella............?
I thought we were in the game till we made a mistake just before half time.
we lacked some width on the right which exposed Kev a bit and they pushed up on whitts and mason which put pressure on our defenders.only trouble was we had little on the bench to change our style apart from rudy.
Mason is a good player but him and whitts in the middle is a luxery.we need someone who can sit in front of the back four and play the ball through midfield....we missed gunnerson and maybe even McPhail this would let whitts play further up the field.

Hudson..........Mackail smith shat all over him and from my angle he clipped his ankle. Hudson was strong in the air but was very poor in other areas, and his pace is shocking.

Miller.......... was again very poor but he needs a few more games, but in all honesty i really dont get good vibes about this fella.

Gerrard...........Seriously needs to up his game. Keinan defo needs to replace one of the two.

fair enough ratings there. cast iron penalty for sure but strange decision not to book hudson
i dont think we should be chopping and changing just yet but unfortunately our centre backs are going to struggle with quick strikers all season,is keinan much quicker than gerrard though?looks like malky will need to bring someone in.We could have bellamy or even lionel messi up top but dodgy defending will always cost you at any level

Probably didn't want to embarrass him further. Being Butt fucked in front of 23.000 was punishment enough

For god's sake we know Hudson isn't the quickest, how many times does that need to be said ?!

"other areas" ? Could you possibly be alluding to his passing, distribution etc. ? If you are then I'm sorry but he's a Championship centre-half, not Gerard Pique !
