A Dundee United footballer accused of assaulting a man in a city centre has had his case continued.
David Goodwillie is charged with attacking the man in Queen Street in Glasgow.
The striker is accused of repeatedly punching and kicking John Friel on the head and body and kicking him on the body on November 3, 2010.
Goodwillie, 22, of Craighall Street, Stirling made no appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday. No plea was entered on behalf of the Scotland player and Sheriff Ian Miller continued the case until next month for "further investigations".
The Scottish Young Player of the Year made his competitive debut in December 2005 with Dundee United, appearing as a late substitute in the defeat over Rangers at Ibrox.
He has represented Scotland at all international youth levels since appearing in 2005 and received his first call-up for the senior team in November, last year.
Last month, Dundee United rejected a £1m opening bid from Rangers for Goodwillie. He signed a one year contract in March to stay at Tannadice until summer 2013.

I firmly believe, from what I've been told up here, that the boy himself isn't that keen on a move here anyway. Any fee agreed with Dundee United is irrelevant in that case. If he was that desparate to move to us, I don't think he would've stalled for time so much with his court case. He's holding out for a move to Rangers....

some one on follow follow has said they spoke to goodie and its rangers he wants to go to.
move on and find someone else now.

What surprises me is the fact that he didnt attend the hearing.
Clearly, if he didnt attend, there was always the strong probability the matter would continue.

Paul if he did not attend the court then surely he is contempt of court and could have been arrested, the court has actually said that they are ajourning the case for more investigations, nothing at all to do with Goodwille stalling, seems to me that he was told he did not have to attend as it was going to be carried on
Thu Jul 21, 2011 2:25 pm
he didn't HAVE to attend today, but its possible the case would have progressed further if he was in attendance. As it is, there wasn't much choice. He will need to be present next time....

Perhaps I did not make myself clear, it was the court that said there are more investigations to take place, therefore it would have been ajourned whether he was there or not

If he had turned up and pleaded guity? I don't think anyone can say what would have happened if he had been present....

Pedantic is the word, if he pleaded guilty, then the court would not have to investigate any more
