FAO: Business Advisors/Managers/Accountants

Thu Jul 14, 2011 7:45 am

I am once again attempting to establish my own business, after failing to get any borrowing previously and having to go back to work i was looking for some help in regards to setting up the business. I was wondering if there is anyone on this message board that is involved in the development of businesses that could help me with my Business Plan to make sure it is correct and the best it could possibly be and advice on getting funding/grants from Banks/Government as this is where i fell short previously? Would rather work with some link-minded or suggested people rather picking some randomer out of a book, will obviously pay for the help/work done.

Thanks!

If you have any significant pension funds there could be a possibility of transferring them into a small self administered scheme or SIPP. You could then borrow up to half the funds to purchase commercial property (premises). The rent then gets paid back into the scheme. You can also borrow for other things as well, but financial advice is a must and most providers like to have bricks and mortar as security and if your business fails your pension funds can be seriously eroded. Certainly widely used by many businesses though.

Minimum set up i need to get the business flowing without any hiccups again would be £3-5,000. I went to the bank for Overdraft/Loan when i started last time and was refused due to time with the bank. Now my credit is worse but ive been told that Business Lending through the bank is not the same as my Personal Lending?

Do you own a house/flat? If so do you have any equity?

No equity at the moment either, was renting but moved home to free up extra cash to use for now. Im a promoter basically and been doing it since i was 14 but im sick of working for someone and want to follow it up for real this time without jumpin in to it and cocking it up, Im doing it alongside my current job at the moment while i figure it out. Im averaging a good return on individual events at the moment, but only around a weeks wage a night (£200-500 pm currently), so i need my full time job to carry me. I have and will be doing shows with a return of £1,000+ a night but i need the cash up front to pay the acts which is where i fall short.

I've been doing it 9 years now, mainly Rock Gigs, Rap shows, PAs like Dirty Sanchez etc so its a mix of everything to be honest and ill only be branching out further the bigger i get. Its something i looked at before but getting my business plan sorted or knowing ive done it right is my biggest concern, cos if it take that anywhere and its not up to standard or missing bits then im buggered before i start!

If your confident about business prospects, have a sound business plan that will stand up to scrutiny, along with some proven revenue and growth potential, you could try and search the internet for local 'Business Angels', or Venture capitalist firms. They are companies a bit like the guys off Dragon's Den, who will provide capital for new or existing businesses in return for a share of your business.

If you are confident about presenting and can instill some confidence in others regarding to your future prospects, they may take a punt on you and provide you with enough cash to get you up and running. You need to be cautious about how much equity to give away though, because they will always want more than you may be comfortable with and you need to play hardball to a major share of your future profits.

Good luck, whatever route you take.

PROMOTION AND SHOWS DONT NEED BUSINESS PLANS - YOU ONLY NEED THEM TO BORROW - YOU CAN NEVER PLAN HOW MANY TICKETS YOU GONNA SELL FOR A GIG FOR INSTANCE - YOU JUST NEED WEDGE AND BOLLOCKS.

BRING YOUR IDEA TO THE TABLE - LETS HAVE A BUTCHERS . PROMOTION IS KING , THATS WHY JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS.

On a serious note - dont borrow money whatever you do mate to start something off. always build up your pot , start as small as possible and stay in control. its always possible.
