Moving Abroad..... Advice

Wed Jul 13, 2011 4:32 pm

Looking at my current options and weighing things up at the minute.

Iv got a decent job that pays the bills and lets me enjoy my life but I wouldnt mind moving to Spain or Germany.

Australia/New Zealand/Canada and the States are no goes for me due to something that happened over 10 years ago meaning I wouldnt be granted a Visa (I dont think anyway). Nothing to do with drugs.

Theres plenty of lads on these boards that live and work abroad, so, lads, how did it come about, how easy is it to get work abroad for an English Speaker. Iv been told and offered in the past opportunities to work in Ports basicly cleaning the ships, sounds rubbish but the money on offer was great, location superb and digs thrown in, wish I had gone at the time but hey ho.

Would be interested to here any stories, tips or advice from lads who have uped sticks and don it.

Cheers.

Millar.. :ayatollah:

Oz/NZ shouldn't be a prob if you haven't got a drugs conviction, obviously depends what you did do but i applied for a working visa in oz a couple of years ago with assault and affray convictions and was excepted. I didn't end up going because my gf at the time had her application refused.

Hi Millar, Spain or the Canaries are commercialised so English is spoken very much so you wouldnt have a problem in that field. I moved to Tenerife at the turn of the century but I bought a bar (The Bluebird Bar) so didnt actually go to work for anyone so my situation was slightly different to what yours is going to be. I moved to Canada in 2009 and applied for a work permit and got it, I worked for a Ford car dealership, the only reason I came back to Cardiff was because my mother-in-law passed away and the wife and kids wanted to come back. If you get the chance to move abroad I would say take it, you wouldn't regret it. I want to go back to Tenerife tbh and that might be as early as next year but we will see.
Good luck if you choose to do it.

I'd move to Spain tomorrow. I speak with uk families where I go quite often and they say it is such a good lifestyle and a good place to bring up kids.

Cool, went to Play Da Les Americas in 2005, stayed at the Compostella? Loved it, had a wicked time, loads of great people there, no trouble. Spent most of my time in Murphys Irish Bar pissed.. :D

You are spot on mate, my 2 youngest daughters started school in Tenerife and they are fluent in Spanish, they actually classed Spanish as their first language, they are 15 and 16 now. Children in Spain are so protected and very family oriented so its a great place to bring up kids and its certainly a very good lifestyle. My advice to anyone would be if they get the chance to move abroad (especially Spain) then take it.
