Jones to Watford?

Thu Jun 16, 2011 12:34 pm

IF we get Malky, IF. Do you think Watford will go for Jonesy or do you think they have ambition?

And to the Hornets on here, would you want him? :ayatollah:

We can't afford him. We can't afford to get anyone with useful experience. We'll end up finding some assistant or youth team coach, someone with no managerial experience at all (like we've done with the last 4 managers in a row). If we're lucky, they'll do well for a year or two, and be poached (again). If not we'll end up playing our local rivals sooner than any of us ever wanted.

To us, Malky wanting to leave is an indication that the new owners are probably not going to be good for the club. It's a highly depressing situation, all we wanted was a period of stability. 7 managers in 10 years is awful. Not to mention 4 different chairmen & 5 different owners.....

Oh well. For the gamblers amongst you best get on the odds for Watford as relegation candidates, I think this year we won't disappoint.

i dont think you'll go down to be honest. I think you may push mid table, best of luck :ayatollah:

several things i agree with and others i dont.

no way we will get DJ, overpriced and we are skint as it is. it will be someone like mackay and rodgers who will then leave in a couple of years.

however....

malky wanting to leave smacks of disloyalty really, i think that personally he has seen a payday and jumped at the opportunity. i dont think the way the club is currently being run is of a massive disappointment to him. we are trying to make the club sustainable. the watford supporters seem to be in two camps regarding our new owners. i am all for giving them a chance and as of yet in mind they have not done anything wrong and have generated a fair bit of income. however some supporters, perhaps anotherhornet falls in this category, really dislike Bassini and are especially dubious of his business past (he has been bankrupt previously), and seem to have a go at every opportunity.

also i dont think we are relegation candidates, we have a good young squad and i think we will probably surprise again this season if we can get in a striker or two, a midfielder and a left back (its been so long since we had one im beginning to think that they dont exist).

Mid table? Seriously? I haven't felt this bad about the club since the Vialli fiasco 10 years ago - we've been fighting to get things right since then. For the first time since then I was actually looking forward to a stable season - without threat of administration, without new owners & board room battles. Everytime we feel like we've taken 1 step forward, something like this happens and it knocks it all down again. I think most of us are running out of energy to put up with it anymore.

I haven't been anti-Bassini at all, and nothing he's done has been wrong. But with the departure of the CEO closely followed by Malky, something seems to be very wrong. I honestly didn't have Malky pegged as a mercenary like Brenda Rodgers, which leads me to ask why he jumped ship at the first opportunity.

I do worry that a change in manager will mean that potential targets won't come, as a new manager will want to make his own choices. As for the left back, don't be daft. We're destined to never have another one of those.

I don't think his reasons for leaving are financial, admittedly he will double his wages here, but i believe his reasons are that he is ambitious and wants to manage at the highest level and he has more chance of that at Cardiff, especially when he is forced to sell any decent player you have.

All the best Watford fans - assuming it goes through, get behind the new manager and you'll be fine (hopefully!) :ayatollah:
