Are we really that good?

Wed Nov 25, 2009 11:04 am

I would just like to know everyones views on our team and squad!

Basically, I stand with 9 mates behind the goal and when i was watching the pre-season games i thought we'd be in a relegation battle this season because in my opinion we looked shit at the back, in the rest of the team something wasn't right & our squad was tiny! A few of the boys disagreed and thought we could go up!

Anyway, after our great start to the season im now looking like a MUG! But times are starting to change and i think teams are seeing us for who we really are .................... OK at best!

We are very good but only when we have all our best players available and playiong well...our defence is looking weak because the midfield are not functioning properly and therefore putting the back 4 under more pressure than what is necessary.

We're either really f*cking good (Bristol C home, Watford away etc) or f*cking terrible (Doncaster away, QPR home, Barnsley away)

So yeah, midtable obscurity.

The squad is not big enough to sustain a play off push, we lose one player (Bothroyd) and we have no chance.

Mid table at best.

I'm not comfortable with the team at the moment. Something is wrong and it needs to be sorted.

Dont think im a negative fan because when im in the ground 100% behind the team, its just i feel some fans
the we're this great team but we ain't!

We have a fantastic first 11, and with the exception of maybe Gyepes, Rae and McCormack, the rest of the squad isn't upto much at Championship level and thats where we will struggle, with injuries and suspensions. I think it's squeaky bum time at the business end of the season for us this season!!

Re: Are we really that good?

no we ain't that good, we've been in a false position because our strikers have carried us, we've got real quality up front as good if not better than anything in the division, but the centre of our midfield is crap, hudson and gerrard at the centre of our defence are crap and another keeper who can't deal with crosses, we are conceding far to many goals for a top 6 finish

well the truth is. i seen better football under dj, when we were good we were good, i think this is a shit division. and we are a good side nothing special. you dont go home after a game thinking we were brilliant and no one will beat us? the top 10 are all average sides . bit of luck and we will go up, but. if we do go up. get rid of 11 first teamers

Some of the football we played under DJ was amazing at times, What we lacked was passion and fight. Now i feel we have a mixture of both. I think if Maynard was fit we would be 10 points clear and looking to walk this league, not because the others are average but because we are a great team under Malky. :ayatollah:

We have strong team work ethic and a good team spirit by the looks, the team play for each other and the manager.
Link this to the fact we have loads of ability means we are a good team.

Well so far we've gained more points than we ever did under DJ so its safe to assume we are a better side than then

It's a very interesting question and one that I'v taken a great del of time considering .In essence NO , its just that all the other teams around you are poor and you just happen to slightly better than the dross currently playing in the lower leagues .

take your point. but. then you go in to how strong was the league. i feel this year is very week. look at the bottom half of the table. there are 7 teams in there that before the start of play. were favourites to go up. im not knocking the city. but in a poor division this year. if we dont go up . we can kiss goodbye to the prem for a good few years

On the other hand you could argue, The Championship is stronger than it's ever been, more teams with Prem experience than ever before , the 3 teams that came down with their parachute payments haven't managed a place in top half of table at mid point.
Maybe it's the fact that The Premiership is not what it's made out to be?
Let's face it the two teams that sneaked through the playoffs the last two seasons are doing ok, can't be that hard to succeed up there? ;)

Now we are getting somewhere.

Usually the relegated teams are up there. Well that was the case until 2 seasons ago. Excluding West Ham the teams that have come down in the last 2 seasons have not really done much. West Ham came down with Blackpool and Portsmouth where the laters are well off it now.The 3 teams that came down last season, Blackburn, Wolves and Bolton are all in the bottom half and look like going no where. Thats proof enough to show how poor the premier has been and I wonder how many of the lower premier sides dread the possibility of dropping to the championship knowing they will remain there for many a season.

I'm not going to answer the question if we are good enough or not because I seem to upset the happy clappers on here

I agee with you that it is a weak league this season. The last time it was this weak was DJs last term with us.

The 6 or 7 certs to go up I am always thinking one of them will go on a run like Reading. Can't see that happening the nearer we get to the new year.

No!!!

But we're proving everyone wrong!!!

Still a long way to go

All we can do as fans is stick with the team, fill the ground, not get on the teams back in the first 15 and stand and sing!'n

What will be will be "we can't change it, but we can get behind it"

Its pure the run of luck,
thats what it comes down too,

we could of lost as many games as we have won or drawn...
and we can say the same for the last 3 seasons, had we took our chances better we'd of been 2nd and not 6th/4th 4th
