SHEARER STATEMENT

Wed Jun 15, 2011 12:04 am

"I can confirm that I was one of the candidates that the club spoke to about the vacant manager's position at Cardiff City. During these talks I was most impressed with the vision, ambition and determination of the owner, Dato Chan Tien Ghee, and the board. Unfortunately those talks were unsuccessful on this occasion. Cardiff City is a great club and I wish them every success next season."

shearer do us a favour and f*** off cardiff is an ambitious club go do one you tw*t!

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

Surely an issue to do with his pay then? If he was impressed with the vision then I'm guessing funds for players were there.

Did he really say...
"I'm not desperate to go in at a club that's got nothing and where I'm peeing against the wind."
That wasn't about us right?

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

How the f**k have we had a lucky escape?

He could just be that he is being polite.

'No squad and no transfer budget. No thanks.'

Worrying part is this

"I'm not naive enough to say I'm not going in unless I can be a Premier League manager, I'm not that stupid. Somewhere along the line you've got to do your apprenticeship. But I'd want half a chance of being successful at it."

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

Shearer is an arrogant f*ck bet he wanted 800 thousand a year to manage top salary for the championship and a £20 million budget

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

Wed Jun 15, 2011 12:11 am

Oh well we move on.... Nice statement tho:

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

Wed Jun 15, 2011 12:11 am

Shearer TURNED us down.

What does that say?

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

Wed Jun 15, 2011 12:12 am

I can confirm that I was one of the candidates that the club spoke to about the vacant manager's position at Cardiff City. During these talks I was most impressed with the vision, ambition and determination of the owner, Dato Chan Tien Ghee, and the board who talk it up but Unfortunately those talks were unsuccessful on this occasion as they dont like spending money and theres no playing budget or wages for the Manager.
Cardiff City is a great club and I wish them every success next season but will be lucky to survive relegation on that budget.

Regards Alan.

We don't need a big name to take the club forward onwards and upwards

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

Wed Jun 15, 2011 12:14 am

he knocked us back because we wouldnt give him the budget

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

Wed Jun 15, 2011 12:19 am

The most important thing is to get the team to play in a certain way it will get us out of division. Big budgets don't always work!

They just make it a little easier in the right hands.

If the budget is the problem it doesn't seem to have put off other potential candidates, maybe the Bellamy factor came into play.

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

How from that statement have people got he turned us down cos we have no budget? Lets go by facts not speculation!! All we KNOW is we have spkoen to shearer and hughton, the rest is going by what carl and annis have said, on this matter they have been way off the radar, through no fault of their own.....the club have kept quiet on this so reality is we know nothing!

Yes we do, Shearer was obviously interested in the job but now after speaking with our Chairman he's not, plus he made positive comments about the club so something in that interview told him "it's not the job for me" despite his complimentary comments about our club and Chairman. Basically he doesn't want to manage a club with vision, ambition and a determined Chairman, Why not? Other applicants are still up for it as far as I can gather so what put Shearer off?

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

Wed Jun 15, 2011 1:12 am

Or what put us off him!! We could have decided against it!!!

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

Wed Jun 15, 2011 1:54 am

Does this statement have any affect on who FINALLY takes the job?

It may look to the other candidates that they were obviously in a line behind Shearer. Would have rathered Alan stayed quiet until we picked our manager.

Good news though MAckay is now 7/2 with Skybet. Should I?

I'm not a betting man normally, but I bet you any money Cardiff decided against hiring Shearer as the next Cardiff manager at the last minute.

no one cold understand what he said :D

The statement doesn't say anything about who turned who down.

The difference could have been in the way the board saw the job as opposed to the way he saw it, ie; coach/manager.

He may have wanted to commute, they may have wanted him to live locally, he may have wanted his own staff, the board may have insisted he keep our current staff.

There are a multitude of potential reasons as to why this deal may have broken down, we dust ourselves down and go again.

It's probably a massive blessing in disguise.

its interesting carl that dato did all the negotiating which proves that the two amigo's gethin and alan have totally failed in their efforts to secure a manager.
Not bad news in my opinion as we needed a manager here for the long run who needs to rebuild the club and squad from the bottom up and shearer with even a small amount of success would have been instanly linked with the newcastle job and promotion would have had the english press baying for him to be appointed england manager.
For me its back to Hughton or de matteo now as you and i know all sorts of rules have been broken in pursuit of other managers.
Frankly this leaves the club in a mess at the moment and hopefully a lesson should be learnt here and there should be a director of football appointed to oversee all football matters because to be brutally honest this has exposed gethins lack of experience or knowledge of all things football and he should be just allowed to run the clubs business side of players contracts and the commercial side .
