mo farahs 2011 world best time of 26 mins 46 secs smashed the british record by 32 secs last friday and is to me the greatest british sporting achievement this millennium .... he absolutely smashed many top african runners and is now the 14th fastest man over that distance in history ... what makes it even more special for me is that everyone infront of mo have lived all their lives at altitude! .... i may be bias because athletics is my favourite sport [even above football] but mo farah is my man! .... WHO`S YOURS?

Mo Farah is a legend.
Tbh i have the highest admiration for any distance runner as i know the huge sacrifices and dedication reqd.
Sadly a lot of footballers arent fit to carry the water bottles for these real athletes.

Aherne, whats the genetic reason that most africans and those of african desent are good at long distance running and Jamaicans, the Black Americans with West Indies backrounds are good sprinters.
I know there is a reason, its something to do with the genetic make up and something the body produces that White People dont produce as much of.? It was explained to me before but I cant remember the science behind it.
On the topic, I agree, Mo Farrah is a legend.

obviously genetic make-up and living at altitude makes a big difference! ... but in the case of the african long distance runners they live and breath their sport ... when mo farah trained with them he said that all they do is run, eat, rest, run again, eat and sleep! he couldnt get over their lifestyles! they ate absolutely no rubbish food at all ... dont forget running in africa is a way out of living in poverty! .. in other words they are hungry people! ... mo farah is living proof that people brought up in the uk can achieve great things too if they make great sacrafices. ... with the jamican sprinters it showed on tv their schools championships and there were 16,000 people there screaming and shouting! at schools championships in wales about 150 turn up and they are the parents! .. in other words wheres the desire for kids! ... most welsh kids are to lazy anyway!

That was a great run.
Iv been to watch mates run in Marathons.
We were chatting to a Kenyan fella and his coach in London back in April at the VLM and he was telling us that there is a hormone or chemical that the West Indians and Africans produce that isnt found in a white persons make up hence the dominance in long distance running but I totally respect that it is mainly down to the diet, training and dedication.
Saw loads of people from Wales there, loads of running clubs from Cardiff and Newport gave them all a massive shout.
Marathon Runners have got to be some of the most if not the most dedicated sportsmen and women out there.
Hats off to them

*Aherne.
My mate text me back and said that what the bloke was on about was more to do with sprinters, he did say something about the long distance but we were pretty smashed at the time.
My mate said it is something to do with the high production of protein in to fast twictch muscle fibres which is found in East Africans which is why Usain Bolt and co are so fast, dont know if that means anything to you or whether its bullshit to be honest..
