There are employment laws in place now to protect people these days unlike the 70's and 80's. They are a complete waste of space if you ask me.

but they can represent you,and mediate :ayatollah:

Problem is though the laws are totally useless to the average Joe if they don't have the funding to pay the blood sucking lawyers.
Tony Blaire in his wisdom removed legal aid from employment cases. So unless you've got legal insurance to cover the very expensive court case then you are screwed. It doesn't matter what the situation is and how wrongly you've been treated, no lawyer will touch you without being paid.
The only other alternative is to join a union so that you are covered by their lawyers who will fight your case for you.

Midfield general wrote:Well Labour took £60 million out of the pension pot so no change there.

The unions usually support labour but it was labour who taxed pensions schemes that it pushed the cost up so much for employers that final salary schemes are really now a thing of the past I believe the figure above is closer to £60 billion

God help us if we had no unions coz they are kicking the shite out of the working man as it is.Pay freeze/pay cuts/holiday cuts/final salary pensions taken away etc etc.
And remember all the benefits the working man has now like holidays pensions and a decent wage were fought for by out fathers, grand fathers and great grand fathers....no owner, manager, politician ever gave the working man anything for nothing............if they had their way boys would still be going down the pit,we would have 5 days a year holiday and no sick or pension.

Hang on, people in the private sector haven't had pay raises for years!!!! Public sector workers need to live in the real world

I dont work in the public sector fella...........ive worked in the private sector since leaving the Ministry of defence 23 years ago.Plus because i work in a unionised workplace we have always had rises and a decent pension and benefits.
Now they want to take some of that away and i am not prepared to have something taken away that was hard earned.
the bankers, politicians, and financial sector brought about a slump............let them pay for it.....oh no their pensions are safe....their bonuses are being paid.....their pay rises are still in place.
And dont forget something about public sector workers...many of them chose lower paid jobs in public service rather than work in the private sector to guarentee themselves decent holidays and a final salary pension.
ps I wont put a twisted face on my reply because i dont wish any workers....pay cuts etc....whatever sector they work in.Why would you wish someone who works with a family and bills get less money......are you jealous. :(
