Why was this not enough for DJ to keep his job?

Mon May 30, 2011 7:02 pm

In the words of Gethin Jenkins...

"Dave Jones... leaves his post in the knowledge that he has left the club in a far better position than when he arrived,"

"Dave's tenure has seen Cardiff City Football Club develop from a standpoint of Championship stability through to becoming regular promotion contenders, while also having taken the team to a FA Cup final.

"His efforts in the recruitment and development of players also meant that the sale of these players at times enabled the club to survive.

"He has also had a significant contribution in the development of training facilities and the stadium during his Cardiff City career.

Why was this not enough for the club to keep him...?
Why was this not enough for the fans who have not held back in slagging him off lately...?
Why was all this not enough for him to atleast go down as one of our greatest ever managers...?
Is it because he's had one season of failure...?
Does one season of failure make someone a bad manager...?

All fair questions, in my opinion, and i agree that it's now time to look to the future and get behind the new manager whoever that may be...

But it does make me think, are we just set to be a club now who always expects more than is fair to expect, DJ has set the standard of where this club should be and even that wasnt good enough, so anything less from the next managers will mean we become a club who sacks their manager at the first sign of failure, year in, year out.

I really, genuinely hope that this club doesnt start to go backwards from now on, and that this decision to sack Dave Jones doesnt backfire. Time will tell...

He has left us with diddly squat in terms of Players Chief
"Dave's tenure has seen Cardiff City Football Club develop from a standpoint of Championship stability through to becoming regular promotion contenders, while also having taken the team to a FA Cup final.
But could not get us up and lost the FA cup final
"His efforts in the recruitment and development of players also meant that the sale of these players at times enabled the club to survive.
Most of our players have walked away for nothing
"He has also had a significant contribution in the development of training facilities and the stadium during his Cardiff City career.
Manager does not give you these things the board does. Give Borley his dues here
Why was this not enough for the club to keep him...? He could not control his players
Why was this not enough for the fans who have not held back in slagging him off lately...? He has achieved nothing
Why was all this not enough for him to atleast go down as one of our greatest ever managers...? He was not our greatest Manager ever that is a matter of opinion
Is it because he's had one season of failure...? Being the highest paid Manager outside the Prem he had 6 years of Failure
Does one season of failure make someone a bad manager...? The last season at Ninian was not a failure then ? Neither was being beaten By Blackpool at Wembley or one year finishing 13th

All fair questions, in my opinion, and i agree that it's now time to look to the future and get behind the new manager whoever that may be... Yes we have to get behind the new manager

But it does make me think, are we just set to be a club now who always expects more than is fair to expect, DJ has set the standard of where this club should be and even that wasnt good enough, so anything less from the next managers will mean we become a club who sacks their manager at the first sign of failure, year in, year out.
No Swansea has set the standard as to where this club should be.
I really, genuinely hope that this club doesnt start to go backwards from now on, and that this decision to sack Dave Jones doesnt backfire. Time will tell...

He has left us in the shit with unfit Players and an inadequate squad. It will be a massive job for anyone to come into. Absolutely no base to work on

Why was this not enough for the club to keep him...? Players drunk before Boro game and not disciplined correctly. End of season collapses in 5 of his 6 seasons in charge. An awful relationship with the local media. An appalling record of coming from behind in games. The perception of no team spirit at the club. His era saw a yawning chasm develop between supporters and players
Why was this not enough for the fans who have not held back in slagging him off lately...? See aboveWhy was all this not enough for him to atleast go down as one of our greatest ever managers...? On the flip side DJ deserves credit for building a club, doubling gates and making us genuine contenders. All laudable but he simply could not see us over th line.Is it because he's had one season of failure...? One season ? Are you sure ?Does one season of failure make someone a bad manager...? One season wouldn't ,no. DJ is not a bad manager but he has some very sizeable chinks in his armourAll fair questions, in my opinion, and i agree that it's now time to look to the future and get behind the new manager whoever that may be...

In many respects DJ is a victim of his own 'success' but it is time for a change for both him and us. Good luck to the guy.

Fair enough mate, i respect your opinion, and even though i disagree on the whole i understand where youre coming from in certain parts.

Glad that some people on this board are able to disagree constructively, without arguing or personally insulting/slating Jones.
