gardening leave

Great idea give Jones a years notice and put him on gardening leave --Burton and Bellamy in charge

Has it ever i.e forced a manager to resign so that he can get another job.

The danger is that Jones may decide to sit on his arse for a year whilst on 18 grand a week

Was thinking this the other day....We would be better off putting him on Golfing Leave ;)

If you put him on gardening leave you'd still have to pay him his salary over the year as well as having to pay the new management team.

Might as well pay him off straight away as put him on gardening leave.

Not that Jones would notice the difference if he was put on gardening leave - he's done f**k all for the last few seasons anyway!

I wouldn’t agree with that entirely.

If we did put him on gardening leave it puts us in a position of power. At any point between now and 12 months time if a club wants him as manager or if he applies for a job they need permission from us to take him. If they want him they may have to pay us compensation meaning we won’t lose all of the £800k.

On the flip side after a couple of months Jones may accept a smaller pay off because he knows that 12 months is a long time to be out of the game particularly if he wants to manage at this level again.

Either way the last thing we should do is pay off his full years salary now.
