Sad, jealous Newport fans

Fri May 13, 2011 3:23 am

OTPE no offence but that may be because you no longer live here. Personally, I work with them day in day out and to hear their bragging and boasting in that daft accent of theirs of how the saw Rooney this week, Torres the next etc would break me. A lot of people I went to school with are already starting to turn toward the shite, it seems like more and more every day. My brothers in Sixth form and says he's in a minority of County fans, everyone supports Cardiff. How them getting promotion could be beneficial to us is ludicrous IMO. The younger generation of fans that we will need LONG TERM will take the easy option and go 12 miles down the road to watch Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal et al for £15-20 more than what we charge for Telford, Barrow & Forest Green FACT. It's getting to the point now where they're everywhere I go. Down my local for example on Saturday, a group of the w@nkers came back from Burnley dressed as Smurfs in their Cardiff tops and had the cheek to stop off for a beer and asked me "How did you get on today mate" felt like strangling the cheeky little fuckwits, it got a bit heated when I lectured them about supporting their local team as well  it's winding me up just thinking about it

So in summary anyone BUT Cardiff. NCFC1 **** off back to CCMB or the Annis arse licking society board as you're blatently not County, every post you make is negative or supporting the scum.

RANT over. :| FU(K OFF CARDIFF (Did I mention I don't like them)

No mate.

Of course he's got a point.

Loads of our fans slag of people from down here who support the Mancs, Liverpool etc and rightly so.

I know these are slightly different because they are at least not that far away, but in reality, they still supporting a big club instead of their local side.

North Walians who support Everton.

Lads from Walsall who support Villa.

People from Barnet supporting Arsenal.

Lads in Doncaster who support Leeds.

Theres lads from North Wales who support Cardiff and thats brilliant, we also got lads from Neath/Port Talbot who aint supporting there local team. Same for lads from Newport, Cwbran etc who follow Cardiff.

You could even argue someone from Abergaveny should support Hereford.

Personaly, it doesnt bother me, people can support who they like, I love the fact our fans come from all over the place, but when people start brandishing stuff about glory supporters and supporting their local club, they need to remember that a large amount of our fans dont support their local team either!

If a bus load of Cardiff fans saw a load of Leeds Fans with 'Doncaster Whites Flags' they would be all over it, but a 'Newport Bluebirds' flag is alright, double standards

In all fairness i live in newport but would never support them, the county are shit. Hopefully see this bloke again in the pub today before reading haha :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Come on fella, im not defending the bloke, he's probably a tool, the County guy, but he DOES have a point.

If your from Taffs Wells, Cardiff are your local porfesional side.

The teams in Wales are Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, Newport, Merthyr and Colwyn Bay, everything else is proper amateur.

If Cardiff were to fall back down to League 2, and the Jacks were in the Premiership and lads from Lisvane started supporting Swansea with Lisvane Jacks flags you'd think there knobs.

No different for a County fan not liking lads from Newport supporting Cardiff with Newport Bluebirds flags is it.

For the record, as I said, I dont give a f**k if someones from Barry, Basingstoke or Botswana if they support Cardiff they support Cardiff but I do see where the County fan is coming from.

All I can say is 'welcome to our world'
Growing up, when Swansea got promoted to Div 1 some people started 'supporting ' them.
To be a City fan was a rare thing, limited to punks, skins, metalheads and assorted misfits in my school.
I used to go to watch Newport with my old man if City were away, you liked our support then didn't you ?

It's not nearly the same as supporting Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool etc.
Newport and Cardiff borders are separated by 5 miles yet people think it is the same as supporting a team 200 miles and three hours away.

I started supporting City in the early 90's after going with a few work mates and a bunch of the lads from Ferndale.
You could hardly be classed as a glory hunter then and it is only becoming an issue now that we are getting more exposure.

There have been lads from Newport and Cwmbran supporting City for donkeys years.

I agree with you mate.

All I am saying is that SOME of our fans are sometimes hypocritical.

Iv read threads in the past saying 'we bumped into leeds fans from Doncaster in the services with Donny Whites Flags' why dont they support their local team but in the same breath some of these lads were from Neath/Port Talbot.

Also, people slag of North Walians who go and support Everton yet the fella's who come down from North Wales to watch Cardiff are highly praised. Shouldnt they go and support Wrexham?

So you also have to say, that anyone under a certain age and is from Newport and now decides to become a Cardiff Fan are Glory Seeking aint they, they realy should be following County?

Listen, personaly as I said above, I dont care where people come from if they support Cardiff.

Im just saying that the next time our fans slag of others for not supporting their local side, they need to realise that a large proportion of our fans do exactly the same thing.

Thing is Cardiff were the closest 'Welsh' Professional team near Newport for a couple of years whilst the county were in the doldrums.

County fans seem to see themselves as big cats now but really shouldn't, there still in the Senior Gwent Cup playing against local Cwmbran team and Croesyceiliog with the majority of their first team players!!! Jokers

I assume I had staggered home by this point then??! In mine and most caerleonites eyes CAERLEON IS NOT NEWPORT, was originally Monmouthshire until the 70's, everyone in Caerleon shops in Cwmbran and avoids the place. But thats not the point - THE POINT IS WE SUPPORT A CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE FROM WALES WHICH IS A 20 MINUTE DRIVE AWAY! I lived in Cardiff for many years and still work there. Plus we are not some plastic tools, we had just returned from an away game in grimmest North of England!!! Plus we werent inciting anything!? (I had been in enough trouble for one day!) Plus why explain yourself to anyone? We are not wearing Liverpoo shirts.

I have had comments over the years in The Bull from one or two. Last year I didnt go to the 2nd leg of the Leicester semi as my mrs was heavily pregnant, went to the Bull on the promise of not drinking, well er.... by the pen shoot out I was well oiled, when the winning kick went in, me and my mate Pete were swinging our shirts above our head! A week of comments to put up with "you upset so and so!" that kind of thing. Same with Bellars wondergoal against the Jacks, everywhere I went, The bakery, bookies, had comments about our drunken singing. I see that in there every time the big 4 play and the plastics are out in force. Its a small village, that will happen, but its NOT NEWPORT rant over :ayatollah:

I appreciate that mate.

I still see where he is coming from though, even if he is a knob.

All youngsters from Newport who now support Cardiff are Glory Hunting, except if their Dads or whatever support Cardiff and they support Cardiff through that.
Theres no other possible reason for them to support us other than through following the team at the top.

Who would you say is the worst out of this lot?

Cardiff fans from North Wales.
Villa Fans from Walsall.
Swansea/Cardiff fans from Merthyr.
Leeds fans from Doncaster.
Man City fans from Rochdale.
Cardiff fans from Newport.
Chelsea fans from Reading.
West Ham fans from Leytonstone.
Everton fans from North Wales.
Cardiff fans from Neath.

Personaly, I dont see any difference in any of them apart from the fact Cardiff fans from North Wales stands out cos of the distance.

Now if we passed a coach with a flag in the back saying Leytonstone Hammers, Walsall Villa, MCFC Rochdale branch they would get a loads of abuse for not supporting the local side, yet, Newport Bluebirds, Neath/Portalbot Blues, Hollyhead Blues etc etc etc are ok like.

As I said, I like the fact our fans come from all over the shop and all the flags with different place names but you must see where im coming from.

It would be interesting to get a perspective from a Merthyr Fan, now if all the Football Fans from Merthyr and the surrounding areas supported Merthyr when they were only 1 division below Cardiff who knows where they would be now. But they didnt, they support Cardiff/Swansea and Premiership sides but some people say its ok because they follow a Welsh Club.

Its a bit hypocritical realy isnt it?
