" MANY REASONS TO BE THANKFUL "

Thu May 12, 2011 10:22 pm

When I look at the regular team we have played this season it shows to me how much Dave Jones has brought to the party and why a lot of his work is under estimated.

When you think of many players he has brought to our club it is difficult to deny that many of our players are considered some of the best in the division but before we had these players who really believed they would be as good as they have become.

Tom Heaton - when we signed him how many actually had faith in him but he has provide to be a keeper that we pray is fit as he has been an excellent keeper making many outstanding saves.

Paul Quinn - who had heard of him before signing and he is an animal that gives us some fire at the back.

Dekel Keinan - again relative unknown who has become an ever present and is looking very much a fans favourite with each game.

Mark Hudson - so much the villain for so long but this season has shown us why DJ put faith in him and stuck by him, possibly could have been player of the year but for injury in March.

Kevin McNaughton - another success story plucked from Scotland as an unknown to most and who would not want him in the side.

Peter Whittingham - plucked from Villa reserves and now considered as one of the championship's best players, came as a nobody and made a career with us.

Chris Burke - another story of relative unknown to fans favourite, what more can be said.

Jay Bothroyd - no one can tell me that Jay was welcomed with open arms by most because he was not and again his career has gone from strength to strength under DJ

Michael Chopra - bought very cheaply from Newcastle reserves and considered to be one of the divisions top strikers.

Yes there have been loan signings of Oli, Bellamy and others but the nucleas of the squad have been brought in from football obscurity and that is a credit to the manager, I hope now that his reward is that these players repay his faith in them and we will celebrate together a play off success.

Sometimes people don't realise the good things they have and that may be the case with Dave Jones when he leaves CCFC.

DJ has bought some very good players for cheap money and sold them on for big money!
But we don't want a manager that's just a good scout! We want a manager who can get us promoted.
DJ has all the players he wanted. So go get us promotion :ayatollah:

Post of the Month, well said mate, you don't know what you've got till it's gone, and how many players has he had to sell, Ramsey, Chopra, Gunter, Loovens, Johnson, Collins, Gabby, plus many more...............

Re: MANY REASONS TO BE THANKFUL

Agree with all of the points you have made on those players Carl :ayatollah:

For me this is DJ strongest point as a manager, To get players in and make them better players, ALL the above.

Having said that - For every Chops we have had Eddie or Etuhu, For every Super Kev we have had Comminges or Wright.
The list goes on in every position, but as they say try and try again untill you get it right.

The above players you have listed are the best to date..It's up to DJ and those players to get it right :ayatollah:

I For one hope he can manage this squad he has put together into the Promised Land :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: MANY REASONS TO BE THANKFUL

Thu May 12, 2011 10:47 pm

Well Bothroyd yes we got him when he was down and very nearly out and got him playing the best football of his career, but since then he has started his slippery slope back down .

And Chopra who was bought as an unknown and turned into a fan favorite and one hell of a Player. But now is turning into a Drunken Gambling addict who is falling faster than parachutist without his parachute.

Burke who IMO was one of the best players in the Championship but for some time now is not producing his best.

Quinn is Good but not one of the best in this League.

Super Kev is just super Kev :ayatollah:

Whitts is so damn frustrating his goal assists is fantastic so is his goal ratio but goes missing most of the time. Hence frustrating

Carl - I admire how you are trying to boost everyones spirits and are always optimistic but Jones' record in the transfer market is mixed to say the least! He was backed to the hilt this season and most of his signings have contributed very little i.e. Drinkwater, Keogh, JLS, Parkin, JET, Koumas, Bywater, Brown! Jones has done a decent job with us but this season I cant defend him, some of his decisions have been scandalous this year! Chopra right mid? Danny Drinkwater left mid? The man lost the plot a long time ago and im fearing the worst in the play offs! If by some miracle we dont choke, and win, i still think it would be in both the clubs , and the managers best interests to part ways!

Re: MANY REASONS TO BE THANKFUL

Fri May 13, 2011 4:30 am

If anyone were to look through all his signings they would see that he's made some really good signings and some pretty disappointing one's as well, but out of the good one's he's got himself a good starting 11, but some good young talent has also left the club and I believe that is down to Jonesy's personality of "cross me son and yu gone". With the time that he's had to slowly build a winning team I would expect us to be just about where we are at present, but with all that ammunition at his disposal for the play offs is he able to fire us into the Prem?..now that would be the sign of a good manager..finding the talent and also being able to use that talent. He's shown he can find it so now let's see how he manages and motivates it!!

Not in the same class as alexander and as i have said jones has never replaced alexander with a keeper of the same quality

Paul Quinn - who had heard of him before signing and he is an animal that gives us some fire at the back.

kept out of the side because of a silly grudge by the manager . imagine the additional points picked up if he had started the season and kev had started at left back

Dekel Keinan - again relative unknown who has become an ever present and is looking very much a fans favourite with each game.

agree good signing and should have played sooner in my opinion

Mark Hudson - so much the villain for so long but this season has shown us why DJ put faith in him and stuck by him, possibly could have been player of the year but for injury in March.

most improved player of the year

Kevin McNaughton - another success story plucked from Scotland as an unknown to most and who would not want him in the side.

11 kevs and we would have won the league by milles but he is not a centre half as the games against qpr and boro showed

Peter Whittingham - plucked from Villa reserves and now considered as one of the championship's best players, came as a nobody and made a career with us.

goals have dried up this year and in and out of games

Chris Burke - another story of relative unknown to fans favourite, what more can be said.

another player who was not as good as last season and wants 25k a week to sign a new deal bye bye chris

Jay Bothroyd - no one can tell me that Jay was welcomed with open arms by most because he was not and again his career has gone from strength to strength under DJ

the international cap was the worst thing to happen to him and the club. i agree dave jones has brought the best out of him but since january has been the old jay prior to coming to us

Michael Chopra - bought very cheaply from Newcastle reserves and considered to be one of the divisions top strikers.

best player in the play off final last year by a country mile . done nothing this year except drink and gamble

Yes there have been loan signings of Oli, Bellamy and others but the nucleas of the squad have been brought in from football obscurity and that is a credit to the manager, I hope now that his reward is that these players repay his faith in them and we will celebrate together a play off success.

[without the ramsey loan i doubt we would have made the playoffs. oli has been a good loan signing but koumas, jet, keogh & drinkwater have been a waste of good money.

Sometimes people don't realise the good things they have and that may be the case with Dave Jones when he leaves CCFC.

My biggest bone of contention with jones is his lack of faith in youth. there always has to be a mixture of youth and experience in my opinion.
what is the point of developing a youth acadamy and scotts young guns when this manager has no intention of using any of the talent being developed.
the malaysians have pumped money into the house of sport so that they can send malaysia's finest youth players over here to be developed and hopefully unearth some gems for cardiff.
i am grateful for what he has done for the club but regardless of what happens in the next few games we need a change.

Interesting post by does nothing to change my opinion that you could give this guy the entire Chelsea first team squad and he would struggle to make the Championship playoffs.

Struggling to win promotion whilst throwing away good positions is a trait that has followed him throughout his career not just at Cardiff City.

Good manager yes but sorry when it comes to getting a team across the line a nearly man. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I'm backing Dave Jones and Cardiff City all the way in the Play-Offs. However if we don't make it and face another rebuilding season in the Championship, the manager has to be changed along with the squad. Hope he gets us there tho - C'Mon City!!

Michael Chopra - bought very cheaply from Newcastle reserves and considered to be one of the divisions top strikers.

i back the CLUB 100% and will always do so.

BUT chopra has become a VIRUS in our club with his drinking and gambling, dragging other players with him, he needs to be erradicated before the virus spreads beyond control.

Re: " MANY REASONS TO BE THANKFUL "

Fri May 13, 2011 10:21 am

Interesting argument but Jones signings have to be looked at overall, and by reference to our league positions since he arrived, and in partiular May 2011. We cannot look back, we have what we have got now, and that is what he is to be judged on.

There have been some excellent signings (we all know them) but some ridiculous ones and frankly awful ones.

The squad we have as we discuss is IMO short in the important areas of keeper, right back, central defence and central midfield.

It is the defence which IMO is the main cause for concern tonight - it is brittle and lacks pace. The keeper Bywater is (lets be blunt) league 2 standard. Heaton is average. Keinan is showing he has faults, and Hudson whilst a solid tackler and blocker is hopelessly slow. Quinn is aggressive but lacks positional sense and offensive abilities.

The central midfield is a major problem. We saw what it could be like when Rambo was here all to briefly. It is one dimensional (sideways), lacks pace and Mcphail in particular is not a goal threat. Their partnership puts too much presssure on the defence.

Our forwards and wide players are top quality for this league. When on song they are unstoppable (Leeds away eg) but they need to have possession given to them in the opposition half. This is where it falls down, as the distribution from central midfield and the defenders is too slow, imprecise, and not defence splitting enough. Bellamy has to come into is own half to get the bal - that is wrong. What I will also say is that the crossing from wide recently has been abysmal (eg Boro) and the number of times Bellamy in particular is caught offside is amateurish.

i think only tawio of all them commanded a transfer fee and i dont think many/any managers would have a 1005 success result with just being able to sign frees.
also strongly disagree that Ardley, Ricketts AND Whitley were bad signings

Your right Byrne cost minimal fee and of course the wages.

I would bet the money made from the likes of Chops, Johnson, Loovens more than counteracts that mind.

the profit was virtually nothing
