Correct

but he was far and away the best player I ever saw in a bloobirds shirt in 46 years as a fan. What a waste of a talent he was. In my view he should have been playing at the top table of the game - a footballing genius.

i remember on home games coming out of the craddock pub at about 2.30 and watching him strolling towards the ground with his boots in a carrier bag.
phil dwyer once told me that he was the only player robin would let share a room with him at away games

a sublime talent but ruined by demons. Anyone remember the game (Wolves I think) when we were 2-0 down at home and he came on as a late sub and scored and made another to scrape a draw.
Talent was way too good for us but unffortunately footballers didn't receive the additional care then that they do now

An absolute privelege to say I saw him play. Even Clive Thomas says (in the book about Friday's life) that he scored the greatest goal he'd ever seen shame there is not much footage about ........ or is there

I posted this yesterday as I came across a couple of books about RF which may be of interest to you guys. I'll be reading one of these along with one of Mr Abraham's when I go on me hols..............
"Came across this 52 Page Photo-Essay produced in conjunction with When Saturday Comes for a £3.00 "digital edition". The link is at
http://www.exacteditions.com/robinfridayAlso noticed and just ordered what appears to be a good book on Amazon called "The Greatest Footballer You Never Saw: The Robin Friday Story" which is written by Paul McGuigan and Paolo Hewitt, so it should be a good read. Only a fiver.
Ironic that he's adored by Cardiff and Reading alike. As he finished his career with us, I am taking that as a good omen (but then again I have everything crossed at the moment, including my eyes). Red-Carded against Brighton, breaks in to their dressing room, craps in Mark Lawrenson's kitbag & then leaves. Legend. C'mon City."

Bargain! - should be a good book as I've read other Paolo Hewitt stuff and he's always pretty good. The other author is from Oasis (was) and I think he's does a bit of sports writing now.

Kicked Bothroyd's arse? I don't think so. The guy played a handful of decent games for the City the rest very average. Can't believe all this hype about him. A Reading legend? maybe....but City? not a chance!

going off on a tangent Ive just read Stuart Cable's book " Demons and Cocktails " and its well worth a read plus if you like footballing stuff then Steve Claridge's book " Tales from the Bootroom " is very good and very down to earth .

A Reading legend certainly, but you are so right about his Cardiff career - a superb debut against Fulham, a great subs appearance to rescue a point from 2-0 down going into injury time against Champions Wolves and those two goals in the famous match with Luton showed what a talent he could be, but for the other twenty odd matches he played for us he was, if anything, a liability.

I'll have a look at them both. Stuart used to take his kids swimming down the Vale (just after the Phonics) and seemed like a nice down to earth fella - great shame. I'd also recommend the Fred Keenor book too. Liked the look of those t-shirts too.
