FFS Lets give credit where it is due.....

Ive been following The City since 1975..and still be following them what ever happens to my beloved CCFC..

From day one this forum was set up ,the main agenda and still is the main agenda is to undermine & shit on probably the greatest manager this club has ever had..FACT.!!

Just because DJ is not media friendly (not suprised) and he doesnt sucker up to high profile supporters like previous managers doesnt make him a shit manager..

I was gutted as anyone with the debacle agaisnt Boro last monday but we are still with shout in the playoffs..

If it is true what ive been reading on here regarding our manager ...I would like to say a big thank you Dave for the last few years of a magical rollocoaster ride ..

FFS who the f**k do we think we are..

I would just like to warn Mr O Neil..if we are not playing at the Nou camp in 2 years in the semi final of the champions league ..your time is up matey ..

José Mourinho watch this space..

on the other side of the coin he has had the biggest war chest for wages of any manager in the history of the football club.
the riddler backed him to the extent of almost putting the club into liquidation.
He does not like young players and that was shown when our young player of the year was an embarrasing 25 years of age.
swansea finished above us with less than half the wage bill we have. brendan rogers has two young strikers in sinclair and borino.
Norwich achieved two promotions on a wage budget of 8 million.
If wenger had not sent ramsey to us for those few weeks we would have struggled to make the play offs.
Dave jones does not go and watch his opponents play but relies on other peoples opinions something that alex ferguson never does.
The achievemennt of reaching the fa cup final was great but even the most one eyed fan has to admit it was route that only saw us meet one premier team on the way to the final(boro) and that team was relegated.
I think he has lazy ways and the amount of time the players had off between preston and boro was a disgrace bearing in mind the importance of the game.
He was backed by the malaysians in the January transfer market and promised automatic promotion but now hails just making the playoffs an achievment when all pundits and fans of other clubs label us as chokers for not achieving automatic promotion.
we might have had those two final appearances at wembley but we lost them both and nobody ever remembers who came second.
As far as im concerned promotion or no promotion he has run his time at this football club and we would need a more tactically astute manager if we were to stand any chance of surviving the first season in the premiership

Annis we had a chat about DJ on the train back to the Middlesex Arms pub after the play off Final last year ........ will we be having the same convo this year I wonder ??? :D

Also 1 of the 1st City games I saw was back on mid 70's against Bolton when Cardiff went down and a certain Sam Allardyce played for Bolton that day ........ maybe he can be the man to take us up if DJ doesnt deliver yet again ? :ayatollah:

I am more than willing to give credit whenever and whereever it's due and indeed I have posted on this forum that I think we should ALL recognise that 80 points in a season, at this level, is the best result achieved by this club in 50 years.

This was infact in no small way down to the manager but lets not forget the contribution of the players and more importantly Vincent Tan who has almost singlehandedly funded this seasons target of promotion. But we must come back to a very simple question and that is " Has the club achieved it's primary target for this season?", and the answer to that question is NO.

As a fan I didn't set that target, that was done by the board and communicated by our manager at every opportunity through the season, however this target began to become flexible the further we got into the season until we reached the point that AUTOMATIC promotion was no longer possible, then there was the fallback position of getting promotion through the playoffs.

Of course reaching the playoffs is an achievement and we should recognise it and accept and if we win promotion through that process it will be a fantastic achievement but that will NEVER alter the fact that the manager has for 95% of the season spoken only of automatic promotion. By his own words the only conclusion that can be drawn is that we have failed against our main target this season. No amount of People In This Part Of The World, Unreasonable Expectation Levels, Get A Grip or Buffoons will cover that up.

His media skills are very poor and certainly in this current media driven circus that surrounds the game he is found wanting and if we do get promoted the media demands on the manager increase by multiple factors and our manager simply will not cope with it. The media demands of the PL will find him out there will be no your banned bullshit to the national media he simply will notget away with it.

To describe him as the best manager we have had in 40 years in a way insults many others who have held the role, I would class Frank Burrows, Eddie May, Jimmy Scoular even Jimmy Andrews as at least his equals and in many ways better. These managers never had the playing budgets given to DJ but they still managed on shoestring budgets to achieve promotions, fight off relegations, selling their best players and still deliver at times entertaining football and we should not cast off their efforts with such simplistic statements as DJ is the best manager in 40 odd years. He is a manager who has had the most support during that 40 odd years and as a result he as delivered a consistent performance but also a consistent result.

We are just fans who have the ability to see past spin when it is repeatedly spouted out at us and unlike our managers opinion of us we are no different to fans in ANY OTHER PART OF THE WORLD. :ayatollah:

Re: " David Jones " The greatest manager this club has ever had

Thu May 12, 2011 8:16 am

Although I do agree he's been a good boss for us, but I think its time for a change, DJ has taken us as far as he can! The club needs a shake up and someone new, even more so if we fail to gain promotion.

Re: " David Jones " The greatest manager this club has ever had

Thu May 12, 2011 8:22 am

The club has done well over the last few years and Jones has been a big part of that. He kept the players going during the financial turmoil under the riddler and has taken us to the new Wembley 3 times, hopefully soon to be four. So well done Dave and thank you for what you have done.

Dave has taken Cardiff City to their highest league position in most of our memories if not all. As stated previously though football is a business and business is about growth. To grow as a club you have to be on the big stage, the best league in the world and be sustainable.

Jones isn't the man for the job I'm afraid. He has taken us as far as he can. If we are fortunate to got to the premeier league and he stays do we honestly think hand on heart he could keep us there? I for one do not. He doesnt have the fight. Which is a shame but that's life.

If I look at it as a fan. I am so proud of the progress and where we are but like anything I want improvement and I feel we are at a level and its time for change. We can all blame the players but Dave picked them. It's unfortunate that he his the man to face our wrath but its time. Go up or not for me its over. This doesnt rule out a position within the club i.e. director of football to oversee a young manager BELLAMY. Who knows what will be will be.

All I know is in about 28 hours time I will be making the trip east to watch the Bluerbirds. Regardless of who pulls on the shirt they will get my 100% backing and so will the manager. Please do it this year - even if its only to stop the Jacks :o

Paul Lambert
Ian Holloway
Neil Warnock

Brendan Rodgers
Brian Mcdermot
Billy Davies
Owen Coyle

Theres a few who have done better or equal to Dave Jones in a fraction of the time, with equal or LESS money to spend.

Cardiff City have conitunualy had one of the largest wage bills in the championship.

Apparantly Dave Jones never has/had any money to spend, funny that when you actualy look at it. Granted, he has lost some players, Loovens, Johnson, Ramsey etc and I will give him his dues he has bought some good signings, but look at the ratio of good to bad signings from the bloke.

Considering theres never been any money to spend, he doesnt half like wasting what he has got, not just signings, but the wages.

How many teams sign the likes, of Robbie Fowler, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Trevor Sinclair and how much money were they on. Kevin Campbell, oh dear. Chopra came back for pretty much what he went for.
Ivan Redan, Andrea Ferreti, Byrne. How much did Warren Feeney cost in a fee and wages. Jon Parkin.. keep wasting the money Jonesy boy, why sell Rosco!

Remember how he got rid of Neil Alexander, the bloke who went on to do well for Ipswich, get a move to Rangers and play in the Uefa Cup, all over Wages when Alexander wasnt even asking much. Who did he replace him with, Ross Turnbull, Michael Oaks, Peter Enckleman

Money's tight you know but Jones spent £1.75 Million on Marshall, Hudson and Taiwoo last summer, any of those worked out to be a good signing?

Good in the transfer market? do me a favour! More shit signings again this season, when the squad needs strengthening, who do we get, JLS, Lee Naylor and Jon Parkin! Apparantly we couldnt attract other players like Kamara, I wonder why!, Jonesy treats them like shit, look at the history.

Who else in the Championship has got a player of Craig Bellamy in their squad?? Nobody, and we still couldnt get a top 2 finish.

Im not being funny but I dont want a manager who can pick out a player for £200,000 and sell him for a big profit, as great as that is, I want a manager who can take us up! We aint the only team that loses players to bigger clubs.

I also take the point that as Cardiff Fans we are having a good time, have come a long way from the dark times of Divison 3. Yes the club has come on leaps and bounds, but Jones didnt take us there.

Its a bit sad to harp on about times of 2,000 crowds against Macclesfield and say we are 4th in the Championship now so we should be happy. You have to have ambition. You can say what you want, the last 2 season were failures, at any other club, Jones would have been gone, theres no two ways about it.

Lastly, have a read, sound familiar......

Jones took over at Wolverhampton Wanderers, signing a three-year contract on 3 January 2001. The side were then sitting 12th in the First Division after a poor first half to the season under Colin Lee. Results continued to remain indifferent though and the side eventually finished 12th.

The summer of 2001 saw Jones undertake a large overhaul of the playing squad in the pursuit of promotion. He spent over £7million – the largest spending in the club's history in one transfer period – bringing in the likes of Nathan Blake, Colin Cameron, Mark Kennedy, Alex Rae and Shaun Newton. Additional firepower was also later purchased in Kenny Miller and a cut-price Dean Sturridge.

The only major disappointment from the players Jones signed as he rejuvenated Wolves was Belgian striker Cedric Roussel, a £1.5million signing from Coventry City in February 2001. Roussel was one of the most expensive players ever signed by Wolves but he played just 27 times and scored twice in 18 months. [1]

Jones's new-look team quickly made an impact, hitting the top of the league by late September, and remaining in the automatic promotion spots over the following months. He won the Division One Manager of the Month Award in February 2002,[3] as part of a sequence of 10 wins from 11 games. By mid-March, they sat in 2nd place, with an 11 point lead over their arch-rivals and nearest challengers West Bromwich Albion.[4]

However, the final nine games saw Wolves take just 10 points from 27 available, while Albion, in contrast, won 8 of their final 10 fixtures to overtake their rivals and pip them to promotion on the final day of the season. Jones suffered more disappointment when his side compounded their poor end to the campaign by losing their play-off semi-final to Norwich City, and their misery was complete later that month when they saw another of their local rivals, Birmingham City, gain promotion as playoff winners.

I dont want to sound negative, but I just want to redress the balance a bit, some people are not seeing the total picture.

Nobody wants us to win and be successfull more than me and we are still in with a great shout and I will supporting every player AND Dave Jones till the final whistle of the last game, but come on, greatest manager? I dont think so.

Re: " David Jones " The greatest manager this club has ever had

i totally agree with this post, he is out greatest manager, remember when he first came, it was at the end of the hammam era, and we all know what happend there, with ambitions outweighing talent.... who else really, could of come into our football club, with no money, and being told players like "earnie, kavs, collins, gabbs ect ect" being sold off, and then being told, you got nothing to work with, just try and keep this club alive......and then season after season being told you have to lose a star player..and to still be able to go out and pick up players on a free such as super-kev, burke, chops for next to nothing, and to get chops scoring 20+ goals, the only manager to get bothroyd to work, is all down to some good man management... yes the other side of the coin is "the biggest wage budget any other manager has had" thats simply because hes earned that, and because of us fans, we demand soo much, and to get the promotion, hes had to use big wages to attract the players just to come here. okay, maybe he has made a few mistakes but name me one successful manager who hasnt........fergie has made loads of mistakes, and one of the most successful managers of all time......... we could of easily of sacked jones, and brought in someone else, who the players didnt respect and didnt want to play for (e.g. peterborough when they sacked darren ferg) alot of fans seem to forget before jones, we where never a big team in the championship, hadnt been to the fa.cup final in years, this is all due to jones, because if there was someone else in, who knows we could be sheffield united right now, or even worse a plymouth going back down to league 2...... in my opinion Dave Jones is the best manager we have had in my time.
DAVEY JONES'S BARMY ARMY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: " David Jones " The greatest manager this club has ever had

Thu May 12, 2011 9:54 am

Name another City manager who's lived in the comfort zone like Jones. Even when Ridsdale said after that Charlton game, that Jones had 3 games to save himself, you new he'd never be sacked. Where would we have scraped a £million from to pay him off. Jones is head and shoulders the best paid manager we've ever had, do'nt know about the best. Surely to be the best you have to win trophies and promotions.

Re: " David Jones " The greatest manager this club has ever had

Thu May 12, 2011 10:02 am

I think Dave Jones is quite possibly the best manager we have ever had. I cant think of any others who have achieved what he has. The problem is from here on in is this loyalty thing. Do we stick with him at the risk of failure (by failure I mean not getting to the premier league or failing to stay there when we do) or do we pat him on his back and say Dave you have the accolade of being Cardiff City's best ever manager and thanks for all you've done and let him go.

It's a tough call. As stated for many times. I dont hate Jones and certainly have not been a member of the Jones out brigade. I am grateful for our achievements but the time for change is here. The man is at his summit and needs to move on or upstairs for a different role within the club becuase he abviously has something.

Re: " David Jones " The greatest manager this club has ever had

Some very interesting posts i must say, but for me, with Dave Jones the glass is either "half empty or half full" if you know what i mean. 80 points this season is indeed the best season we have had since the near miss season of 1970/71, a fact that makes this season all the more difficult to take. Was DJ told pre season that it was promotion or bust this year. Interesting that he has already sold & is moving out of his house, all that planning must have taken at least six months to organize???

Re: " David Jones " The greatest manager this club has ever had

Thu May 12, 2011 11:14 am

Ok, a lot of people know that I am a member of the Dave Jones out club but lets get one thing straight - I think he has done a good job. He has done a good job, not a great job and is now stagnating. Players heads drop as soon as we go a goal down and we rarely get points when we dont play well, 14 defeats this season is shocking. We have a better squad this year but we actually look worse than last year and have lost more games.

He has not got the best out of Bellamy, 23 other managers in this division would give their right arm for a player of that calibre.

He clearly signed JET to keep Wenger sweet, he came on against QPR to make an impact and may as well have sat next to me.

Every time he makes a big signing he makes them captain, sends out the wrong message to the previous captains

Plays players out of position when there are capable replacements, why wasnt Darcy Blake given a chance when Hudson was injured? McNaughton is one of my favourite players but he cost us a goal against QPR and 2 against Boro which is more to do with him being a full back and getting his positioning wrong.

Why hasnt Matthews been given more of a chance?

Why are our players out on the piss the night before and 48 hours before hand?

Why do we bottle big games? Why, when we go a goal behind do I never have faith in us winning the game?

If people say "its the players" just remember - Dave Jones signed them

Hes done a good job but its time for someone else to come in and take us forward. If we do go up I cant see Dave Jones keeping us there.

Re: " David Jones " The greatest manager this club has ever had

Thu May 12, 2011 11:35 am

The greatest????????? Really!!!!!!! I dont think he is even in my top five!!! Ill give him credit, he i not the useless cretin some depict him as but he really has not made the most of the resources made avauilable to him and as we all know, when it comes down to it he rarely delivers! Fred Stewart, Cyril Spiers, Jimmy Scoular and Len Ashurst are all deservedly ahead of Jones in my opinion and then its between him and Eddie May for fifth spot!

Re: " David Jones " The greatest manager this club has ever had

The name Dave Jones shouldn't be used in the same snetence as Jimmy Scoular. Jones isn't fit to lace his boots. I've got firends who are Wolves season ticket holders of many years, in fact one of them runs a business that was a partner of Wolves for many years. They all tell a horribly familiar story of "should have/ could have/ would have" during Jones tenure as their manager. Always the nearly team and Jones the nearly guy. Sneaking up through the play offs bought him another season there. He's viewed there with some sympathy rather than animosity but they never particularly rated him.
