Missed out on £3million

Mon May 09, 2011 4:07 pm

When we didnt sell Peter Whittingham.

I cant be having this bloke in our midfield anymore, he's in the last chance saloon for me.

For QPR's second goal in the 2-2 draw he just kept dropping back and back watching the QPR player coming forward from the half way line which led to their goal.

I will not dispute that every now and again he will come up with a super strike or a lovely ball but they just done happen enough for my liking. The fella is a serious lightweight and is captain of the bottling culture that seems to be in our team.

Come on Peter, take us to Wembley and score a winning free kick my friend and shut me up  :ayatollah:

Absolutely!

As bizzare as this sounds though, and I dont expect many people to agree with me.

If we lost the Play Offs this season and it meant Jones got the well deserved boot and gave someone like Warnock the chance to come in and take us up the following year or even the year after I kind of think it wouldnt be that much of a disaster as I think it would give us a better chance of survival.

I would have serious doubts about staying in the Premiership with DJ at the helm.

Thats looking at the bigger picture but obviously I want us to win the Play Offs and go up.

Wittingham is massively underrated just because he doesn't run about like a headless chicken.

And struggle to believe anyone offered 5m for rossco, that was PR doing PR.

Possibly 5-6m?
At Leeds this season, been pretty obvious we ripped them off when we got 600k!

Cant agree with that sorry fella although I respect your opinion

I appreciate that you dont need to run about like a headless chicken to make a contribution but you need to make
some effort. Whitts is a good player, of that there is no doubt, but I'm afraid his good performances are few and far between.
He will come up with a wonder strike every now and again, but his work rate is shocking, he never gets a foot in and doesnt track back, he is the first to go missing when the heat is on and cant defend for shit. He cant run with the ball, is lacking in pace and cant take anyone on either.

He gets carried through games based on the fact that every half a dozen games or so he will do something amazing but the rest of the time he is non existent.

WHAT!

He's only scored 33 goals in the last two League seasons. Last season he played exclusively on the left wing and this season as the anchor man in midfield.

People won't like this but IMO witts covers the full back very well and better than Burke.
Look an the highlights Over the season and you will see a lot of goals from Burkes side and him in no mans land. Witts puts in a hell of a lot more work than he is given credit for and he does Put a foot in.

Hiya Steve.

He's actualy scored 36 goals in the last 2 seasons, 25 last year and 11 this year of which last season 8 were penalties.

Iv never once disputed that he chips in with goals and comes up with a wonder strike every now and again but in my opinion it masks over the fact that for the majority of the games the bloke is non existent.

Prior to last season I dont see how anyone can argue that PW was pretty much rubbish for us.

People are constantly moaning that Bothroyd is always out on the wing picking up the ball and running at players instead of being in the box, well this is because Whitts cant run with the ball, hasnt got pace and cant take people on, therefore Bothroyd is coming over to the flanks to do the wingers job! Secondly, if you put him in the centre he makes us lightweight because again, he's second to the ball and doesnt get stuck in.

Watch QPR' 2nd goal here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNqN5JrAHCs 7 Minutes 21.

Ball comes over to the wing, Rotledge picks up the ball, have a look who comes jogging accross. As Routledge picks up the ball, he then take 3-4 touches comes forward about 7-8 yeards and then puts a free ball into the box which led to the goal. Have a look where Whittingham has gone and explain to me what he's doing there, just jogging backwards watching Routledge come forward. Happens all the time, the bloke just backs off and backs off. Theres 5 other Cardiff players behind him there and Whitts should be fronting Routledge up to at least try and stop him playing the ball.

I know that is poor quality and you might think im being harsh but I watch Whitts back off and back off all the time. He's also been an ever present in the team that has bottled it the past 2 seasons and hopefuly NOT this season aswell.

I just think that when Forest offered £3million after his one good season we should have took it, we could have got a quality winger for £1.5million and a class centre Midfielder for the other £1.5million at this level.

Thats just my opinion though and oviously I respect all others and clearly we aint going to agree on this one.. :ayatollah:

Maybe Whittingham is one of them Mortgaged players who are worth next to nothing for us thanks to the corrupt Riddler, hence the reason for not selling him. As for those who think McCormack is worth £5-6million are as deluded as those who reported it.

Hiya mfthwl,

Good to make contact. It's great to have a good old banter, isn't it?

He's actualy scored 36 goals in the last 2 seasons, 25 last year and 11 this year of which last season 8 were penalties.

Yes, ta for pointing that out but I only included FL Championship games in my totals.

Prior to last season I dont see how anyone can argue that PW was pretty much rubbish for us ... Whitts cant run with the ball, hasnt got pace and cant take people on ...

Prior to last season 'Dick' was always the scapegoat, the one to be dropped, and was consequently never given a run in the side. It was only due to Etuhu's injury problems that DJ had no alternative and had to play him for the season on the left. And look what he did. For a player with so many limitations 25 goals in a season seems pretty good to me.

This season Whitts has rarely played on the left and even fewer times on the right. He has almost exclusively been crassly and stupidly used as the anchor man (yes ... ANCHOR MAN) in midfield. I've ranted and raved about this so often this season, but here goes one last time. In DJ's opinion (how?) he plays the ball winning anchor man, Olofinjana, behind the strikers whilst the gifted, creative Whitts an arm's length from the two centre-halves. What logic there is in this completely baffles me. On Saturday at Burnley we had the perfect example in where 'Dick' should be: Chris Eagles gave a sublime exhibition of play just behind Burnley's attack. Is it too much to expect for Jonesy to ever do likewise?

With best wishes,
StT. <><

Hiya again Steve.

Yep it sure is good to have a bit of banter fella, thats what its all about.

I take all your points mate, and can see why the criticism of a player who scored 25 goals last year would seem baffling to an outsider looking in, or to a fellow fan like yourself who clearly rates Whitts.

I tottaly agree on the point of playing Whitts in the centre of Midfield as an anchorman being stupid, only Jones knows why he has played in that position so many times.

I stand by my comments about Whitts not tracking back though, that is an area of the game he, and others need to work on.
I like a player who shows passion on the field, I feel Whitts is lacking in this department, that said, Im willing to let that one go, as I fully appreciate different players show emotions in different ways.

Id also like the bloke to try and run about a little bit more, act like he cares a bit, instead of casualy jogging about and standing with his arms by his side, know what I mean? Im sure he has it in his locker, so id like him to try and take people on a bit more and not come inside EVERY time.

There is no doubt he has loads of ability, he played for England Under 21's over 10 times, but theres also a reason Villa let him go and no big club has come in for him in the last four years, all of which I think Iv pointed out above, I honestly think its a lack of desire but I hope to be proved wrong.

All the best

My opinion is not idiotic fella, you might not agree with it but its an opinion that I know many others share.

Granted, my post isnt exactly very well timed but as I said to Steve, I stand by everything I said.

And in answer to your question, yes I would play JET, got no idea why he was dropped in the first place, he was just coming into himself and had a great few games, then all of a sudden Jones bombed him out.

Iv also never disputed the fact that he chips in with goals and will have a blinder every now and again but as I said, this doesnt happen often enough for my liking.

The goals are excelent, but his all round play isnt up to scratch for my liking, clearly Im not alone in my thinking.

Fair play to you for sticking up for your mate though, wouldnt expect anything else, and Im glad he loves playing for the club and I hope he scores the winning goal at Wembley.

But it wont change my opinion that we should have sold him for £3million and bought another winger for £1.5m and a centre mid (Michael Brown) for the same price. Its nothing personal against him. Just what I thinks.

Just like I think Jones was stupid singing 2 loan keepers, especial Stephen Bywater!

They start off as little whispers around the stadium and before you know it the whole stadium are on their back.

I would prefer the loyal 4-5000 fans from Ninian Park who stick by them good or bad. They are pros and don't go out on that pitch to lose!!!!!!!!

Why didnt Jones just sign one keeper and have Santiago on the bench then.
Thats exactly what he did when Marshall was out and Heaton was in Goals.

So why didnt he just sign one keeper and keep Santiago on the bench.

Get a grip mate, this is a forum for debate and banter, Iv supported Cardiff for 25 years, I'll be one of the most passionate people there on Friday and Tuesday night and will be right behind every single one of the players.
