Just watched the film "City of life and Death" a very powerful and very disturbing Chinese film of the Rape of Nanjing where in six weeks 350000 Chinese soldiers, Civilians including Women and Children were slaughtered by the Japanese. They were shot, impaled, buried alive, and burnt alive. 40.000 women and girls under the age of even 8 were Raped and there was one Man a Nazi called John Rabe who saved 250.000 lives by creating a safety zone and using his Nazi Swastika on his arm to save these People.
It is shocking how so many can be so evil and what does it say about the human race. Nanjing was the biggest massacre in the 20th Century and even today the Japanese deny Nanjing happened to this extent saying y a Maximum of 20.000 people died in the Battle. Only 4 Japanese was ever convicted of atrocities which is madness. If any of you get the chance to see the film i recommend it. It is very hard viewing knowing its a true story but its a powerful and brilliant film.

Yeah DVD got it from Tesco £4. Yes suppose it could be punishment. But they Raped 4 times as many Women and girls than how many died in the Quake. Humans are really an Evil race

I have read the book and it was un-believable how cruel man can be, it really was sick, but just to put you right it was Nanking not Nanjing just in case people google it.
Some of the stories from the book cover the competition between two Japanese officers who competed for weeks to see who could behead the most Chinese on a daily basis using their samurai swords.
The results would then be published daily back in Japan in the national newspaper as if it was a football score to let people know the results, sick as f**k.
Another story tells how there was a moat or something around the city and the Japs needed to build a bridge to get their tanks into the city, but rather than a build a bridge they just killed hundreds of chines to throw into the moat so they could use them as a bridge and then drive over their bodies using them as a road.
It is a must read book.

When the Russians took Berlin in the 2nd World War, they raped an estimated 2 million women. Its disgusting how cruel man can be. And the sad thing is, I think it would easily happen again if there was a large war.

You need to read more, The japs did the same in Philippines only there wasnt a film made about it.
They used an old fort in Manila and put 1000s of filipinos down in the cells of the fort and when the river come in it would flood and Drowned them. They took over villages Islands and did the same , Rape and all these things. Till the Americas moved in to free them and drive the japs out.
Also the english did it to the people of scotland, and and Wales and Ireland early in History, and after the 2nd world war.
and before that in India. Wake up !

Gwyn I think you will find we are both right. Nanjing was the original name later changed to Nanking i believe. But if you Google both names on Google they will both come up.

Its not mentioned very often but on the brutality of it all it compares to anything the Nazis did in the concentration camps. But the sad thing is the Japs still deny this part of there History

Humans are just animals at the end of the day. I would like to think that even if society broke down and all morality went out the window, I would still live an honest life. There are lots out there though who wouldn't and this is just another instance along with Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Cambodia plus many others where it proves how sick humanity can be.
There was this ex-soldier who lived nextdoor to us in our old flat and he told this story about a tour he was on in Bosnia back in the 90s. He said that one night the Serbs kidnapped all the women and children from one town, took them to the mountain above the town, raped them, battered them and then killed them before tossing their bodies into the river and back down to the town so all the men could cry over their lost loved ones. Sick stuff. Makes you wonder.

Jesus sick stuff Sheriff humans are really an evill race as we don't seem to learn from past mistakes. What makes a person evill ? Not sick but truly evill ?? In the animal world you have cats that torture there prey but some humans are far worse

The Yasukuni Shrine's museum bookshop is full of books that try to spin Japanese atrocities such as this into heroic actions. There is even a train in the entrance area from the Burma Railway with a plaque positioning it at as a tribute to brave Japanese soldiers "who built the railway" - no mention of the starved, brutalised and murdered PoWs and other forced labour from various countries. As one leaves the museum, one is actively encouraged to sign the visitors' book which is full of fake goodwill messages from Annie from Texas and Gerrard from Paris, but the removable pages and small cameras positioned above each book kind of give the game away.
Japan is in still complete denial about its past.

You really do see the Japs in a different light after seeing that Sheriff . And for them to still deny it is disturbing

What the Japanese army did during in the period of 1937 (mabye earlier) to 1945 were some of the worst atrocies in all of human history.
Look at the work of Unit 731 and the vivisection done on Chinese civilians and American POW's and you will be shocked and disgusted.
Cheers Nuclearblue on bringing up an interesting subject, its a lot worse than the Nazi's, the Japanese killed over 30million people alone in South East Asia and during the war.

That unit 731 is mind numbing and horrific. It is worth a google or wiklpedia. As others have said it ain't unique to any one nation, sadly the capabilities are in all mankind to inflict that dort of thing on their fellow man, find it hard to get my head around it.
