One thing I do admire about the Yanks

Mon May 02, 2011 8:01 am

Is how proud they all are of being American. Hispanics, blacks, Jews, Christians, Whites are outside the White house, waving american flags and shouting USA. Whilst I dont agree with some of then holding their "we're Americans, we are the best" attitude, I do find their patriotism admirable. Especially as they have always pulled together during tough times.

I do find it sad that we as Brits arnt as proud of our nationality any more. :ayatollah:

I think we are just as proud but we haven't had the history recently to show it and we're not as arrogant as the Americans so we display our pride with more decorum.

The Americans know how to 'Hollywood' things up though and it is impressive how they do it. I think man for man though us Welsh are certainly just as patriotic. We just show it in a more respectful way. :ayatollah:

one thing about the yanks as wellis that they are proud of their troops and treat them with respect.
two things i have seen out in america is that when servicemen in uniform walk across the airport concourse the general public always applaud them.
Then at sea world during performances they get servicemen to stand up so the rest of the crowd can acknowledge them.
they also give servicemen discounts on entry to the parks etc
stark contrast to the way this country treats its armed forces where parents pay out of their own pockets to make sure their sons and daughters have the right equipment they neeed

I cant stand American patriotism, makes me cringe!

People join the army for money and to serve the governing party. I cant stand it when people go on about them fighting for you, load of bollocks.

I've been living in the US for almost ten years now.
My sons are half Welsh and half American.
I tended to have some biased views on Americans before I married one and came to live here.
They are not much different from us; they can be smart, funny, stupid, patriotic, arrogant, boring, but there's plenty who like a beer and a laugh. Americans adore the Welsh, "love your accent", "what a beautiful country". :ayatollah:
