Sam I think the English tie themselves up in knots about all this. It seems to be the English chastising themselves for showing even a bit of patriotism. I can only assume this is due to the melting pot of nationalities through time.

The other nations were pushed north and west but remained Celts, whereas England is a mix of European nationalities due to Angles, Romans, Normans and the rest.

I'm a proud Welshman and always enjoy the "hate England" banter, but I think that the time has come for the rest of us home nations to give the English our support in them celebrating st George day and flying their flag high and proud. If some sandal wearing tree hugging liberal lefty told me I couldn't fly our flag on st davids day cos it offends someone I'd be effing fuming.
