i go kayaking in west wales, broadhaven in haveford west,be careful if you go in the sea up here the tides are wicked,up and under in penarth road have a trying out session in the river behind,im no expert but feel free to np.m me,i do know that basically the longer kayaks are more stable and better in straight lines, shorter kayaks for messing about in waves :ayatollah:

he means all along the coast,if you go into the sea, stay close to shore, never go out in an off shore wind and best avoid an ebbing tide,if you go further west, the cliffs meet the water and some spectacular views and some good fishing, even just mackerel with a crab line and set of feathers :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Just sold mine as I find I don't get time anymore and really needed the money. I had a tarpon 100 sit on top.

I used to take it round the Gower coast which is spectacular when you see it from seaward, used to to go in at mumbles, caswell, or oxwich then paddle around the other beaches/coves. Used to go down aberavon as well but not too exciting.

Jetskiers and sunday motorboaters are a real fuckin nuisance though. Had some close calls.

I would advise a Perception Scooter for an all round Kayak. Very Stable and suitable for many levels of experience.

probably more to do with the fact water is alot rougher, you need the water to be reasonably flat :ayatollah:

The next bay to Oxwich is also popular with kayakers, Port Eynon..

I'm a paddler.
And all depends on what you want do and were you plan on going.
If is just coastal kayaking you plan on doing then a cheep sit on top is fine, but if like me you the like to the faster ( and better 8-) )type of kayaking then a fully cock pitted one is the way to go.

I usually go on the taff from behind hawthorn school all the way down to Tongwynlas for a nice little trip but iv been most places- Brecon, Ogmore ,Monmouth.

The white water center down the bay is great it £10 all day if youve got all you own rig ie - kayak, paddle, spraydeck, wetsuite, helmert. and about £50 to rent all theirs.

Im looking to do rivers and sea thats why im still unsure what to get.
Ive never tried the full cock pit kayak so dont fancy rolling over upside down
Can a sit on be used for surf?

sit on tops are good for surfing, the longer ones are more stable, but harder to turn,i would say an 10ft or 11ft would suit your needs.. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I've been trying to convince my mrs that I need one too, saw some decent ones in Costco, and there are also some good value "Purity" sit on kayaks to be found on Ebay. They are almost all made in China now, I even enquired about importing 2 from China but the duty and buggering around wasn't worth it.
