Will our academy ever produce players

Tue Mar 29, 2011 4:39 pm

With Swansea dominating all the age groups for Wales do we accept Ramsey was a once in a generation nugget, and as for Jones not playing youngsters the likes of Brown, Meades, Wildig and Fleetwood have all been found out elsewhere

Im a firm believer in the Academy and regularly used to go to Treforest when I lived in Cardiff.

I remember Lennie Lawrence once saying to me that we would be lucky to get one person playing football league out of the Under 16s and Under 18s. We subsequently produced a right handful.... and, in my opionion, that down to Sam, Steve Borley and the former Academy Coach who we allowed to leave (Sorry forgot name).

The difference now is that the current crop of players are fighting to get into a Championship side. This makes it harder for them to break into first team football.

Two lads coming through, Theo Wharton and Gethin Hill, who played in the same league as me a couple of years ago, both of them were immense but whether they'll be good enough I don't know. Latest I heard they both have been offered scholarships. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
