I like Cardiff airport, but because of high landing fees, its much cheaper 90 per cent of the time to fly from Bristol.
Its easy to get to Cardiff Airport from Cardiff Central by bus or Train with a free lift in a bus waiting for you at Rhoose Train station. :ayatollah:

Years ago while the low cost trend began Bristol Airport management had the initiative to attract the low budget airlines knowing that this was the future of air travel. Cardiff airport did sod all and has since always been in the shadow Bristol Airport and will always be.

These days I don’t even bother trying to fly from Cardiff as they are too expensive and don’t fly to the destinations I want.

This is a big problem and BMI baby now doing a lot less flights this summer.
Flybe will be going more flights and a new airline going to Zurich but if you want to go somewhere a bit different and go from Cardiff you would have to get the KLM to Amsterdam and then connect.

A fridge full of ice cold beer and an array of mixers right beside my seat means 3 drinks won't do

Re: Cardiff Airport

Cardiff Airport had been in decline for years. In the 70's the airport was busier than Bristol and was very keen on charter flights. Since those days the airport has had managers that believe that the airline world owes them a favour and they should be lucky that Cardiff would allow them to land there. I used to charter aircraft in there and had nothing but barriers put in my way or got let down with lack of de icing equipment etc.

They called the bluff of Ryanair and lost them to concentrate fully on Bristol where they now offer a mouthwatering choice of destinations. Go airline based themselves at Bristol and they were bought out by Easy Jet and they have excellent choice of destinations also.

Thos Cook have now decided to base one aircraft less at Cardiff this season and the same has happened with BMI Baby. There is no guarantee that Flybe will base more aircraft at Cardiif and the future looks very bleak.

The airport management blame poor road access as a problem but all those that fly from Bristol know that their road access is even worse but they don't look for excuses. So what does our airport managers do to answer these problems they first of all came out with a brilliant idea of charging every car £1 for just dropping off family or friends and then charging £2 for a baggage trolley. I tell you they are brilliant !!!

If things dont change very soon operators will pull out of Cardiif and Bristol will be our local airport. The facilities at the airport are good, the runway is good, the weather record is good, shame about the management !!

I know mate but why connect when I can fly from Bristol or Heathrow. They are the two airports I mainly fly from.

Cardiff had its chance when the low cost boom started, such a pity the management at the time made the incorrect decisions.

Re: Cardiff Airport

Shit Prices, Shit Location, Shit destinations.

I regularly have to fly to Bremen, hamburg and Hannover. Absolutely no chance from Cardiff. Usually have to fly from Birmingham, Stanstead or even exeter. If I really needed to fly from a local airport I'd choose bristol everytime.
Can't stand Cardiff airport. Ideally they would knock down Cardiff and Bristol airport and build a 'super' airport somehwere near the severn bridge. Obviously that would never happen though, as the cost would be unthinkable...

I remember years ago plans for a Severnside Airport just passed Newport with easy access to the M4 and with good rail links. Ambitious but in my opinion would have best all round as both Cardiff and Bristol are not in ideal locations. Can't see it ever happening though.

I agree, when we played Newcastle I flew fro, Bristol with easyjet.
But depending on price, transiting through airports is little hassle if the price is right.

From the PAX ive spoken to Ryanair are by far the worst.
BMI are harsh but only if you are in the wrong, just read all the info they give you and you will be fine.

Re: Cardiff Airport

dont know why it costs so much to fly from cardiff compared to Bristol-paid £1200 for 4 of us to go to tenerife next summer in peak school hols time from bristol. IF WENT FROM CARDIFF WITH THE SAME AIRLINE WOULD COAST AROUNF £1600. £400 less!!!! WHY?
