do you remember, the old guy, dressed up as a copper every week in the grange end?, the days when the police , just laughed, nowadays, he would be arrested for impersonating a police officer?

I think I have the same guy in mind and I'm sure he was a resident of Ely Hospital and we used to call him 'Bouncer' on account he would stand there (with a plastic coppers helmet on) bouncing up and down on his heels....
He was a bit of a character (and completely harmless) and the coppers of the time took him under their wing....
Is this the guy you are on about??
Anyone else remember 'Bouncer' with the plastic coppers helmet??

Ah, that was the 'Bin Man' who used to (literally) run the streets emptying the rubbish bins alongside the bin lorry to keep fit.
If I remember rightly, he played local football in the Grangetown area (possibly on the ground opposite the old stadium??) until he was about 73 years of age....and there was many a younger man who couldn't keep up for 70 minutes!!
Always reminded me of the late great and iconic Ralph Coates with his mad side-swept hair covering his open-top roof!!
The only one I can remember as competitive for his age was the equally iconic Graham 'Pearly' Gates who was still pretty damn good at the age of 50 (had a similar Ralph Coates hairstyle too!!

Yeah his name is john i was once a binman and he used to help out for a bag of fruit.One day i wound him up saying yer back wheels following the front of yer bike he went potty and tried to jump me he had to be draged off.top weirdo
