Ryan Giggs

Fri Feb 18, 2011 2:24 pm

Has just signed a new 1 year contract extension until the end of the 2011-2012 season, this is of course great news for the player who let's face it is a credit to the game we all love.

As we all know Ryan has never played in a major International Football Championships which is about the only honour he will miss out on. Unless of course he were to be named as one of the over 23 players in the Great Britain Olympic Football team next year.

The Olympics are due to be played in August 2012 which will be only 3 months after the end of next season, Ryan is a naturally fit player who has always looked after himself so unless something bad happens next year he should be physically up to the challenge.

Olympic football squads are set at under 23 level but with 3 over 23 players allowed in their squads subject to permission from their clubs. Under FIFA regulations clubs cannot refuse to release any player under 23 who is selected.

I may just be over sentimental here but in the last 20 years has there been a better role model amongst professional footballers and I just think this would be a wonderful stage for him to bring the curtain down on his time as a player. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

What's mad is last week I passed through Thailand and three times when I was asked where I was from by taxi drivers and a barman, the moment I said Wales they smiled and said Ryan Giggs! One of them was a Liverpool supporter and couldn't stop talking about what a legend Ryan Giggs was and how I must be so proud!

To have been a first teamer for 21 years at the same club and playing at the highest level with a bucketful of honours-what an achievement in the modern game.Without doubt the greatest welsh player since John Charles.Remember reading somewhere a few years ago that he would not rule out eventually finishing his career with his hometown club-may be 40+ by then! and i`d still take him.

The ultimate player and professional, even when he he's rave reviews he is underrated.

Shame the likes if Darcy Blake can't show 1% of his professionalism and then he might actually make it.

The best player that has ever played in the Premiership in my opinion.

Season upon season he is truely world class. He is the cream of the cream.

one of the best players ever and Man Utd legend yes but not Wales legend in my eyes ... just happens to be Welsh

he went 11 years without playing a friendly for Wales ... either he couldnt be bothered or he let Mr Ferguson pull him from every match ... someone who is truly proud to play for their country would have put their foot down... dont anyone tell me he was injured every time for 11 years as that is bull...

and when his country has bunch o f talented youngsters coming through with hardly any experience he retires. .... even if he just trained with the welsh squad that would be something .

He is certainly the greatest Welsh player I have had the privilege of seeing and I would even arguably say the greatest British player. Such a professional and bar the house parties with the hair dryer treatment in his early days with Lee Sharpe, he has led an impeccable lifestyle. Certainly players like Rooney, Terry et al could learn a thing or two from Giggs.
