Jones targets top spot
Bluebirds boss confident of overtaking QPR
Jones: Wants top spot
SKY SPORTS ON SKY
There's more live football on Sky Sports.
" Cardiff manager Dave Jones still believes his side can clinch top spot in the Championship this season. "
The Bluebirds cut Queens Park Rangers' lead to six points at the weekend with two games in hand after they edged past Scunthorpe and the Hoops were held by Nottingham Forest.
Cardiff take on fellow promotion hopefuls Burnley at home on Tuesday night and Jones is adamant it is still all to play for.
"We're chasing down top spot. If we can get the victory we want, we have still got QPR to come here and it puts us that step closer to what we all want," he said.
"You aim for the top and if you can't finish top you finish second, and so on.
"I remember going to Southampton in the Premier League and I was told finishing fourth from bottom was a fantastic achievement.
"When I said I wanted to finish top people looked at me as if I was stupid.
"Everybody knew I wasn't going to win the league but you aim for the top - you don't aim for fourth from bottom. You have got to have a goal, a dream and an aim.
"It doesn't mean you are going to achieve it but you have got to keep striving for it.
"We have never given up on anything here."
Burnley are themselves looking to push on under new manager Eddie Howe and they secured a 3-1 triumph over Watford on Saturday.
Jones admits the Clarets will be tough opponents but is confident of a result in South Wales.
"They have got good players but it is up to us, because so have we," he added.
"It will be another battle for us and we have got to keep going and striving for that goal we are all aiming for."

If only I was as confident!
This is Cardiff City, we don't do things easy.
Still, 2-1 I reckon tonight.
Forest will be a different matter though. A point would be great up there.

Ramsey going back will upset the way the team performs as he really is as good as you can get and does the work of 2 men. He cannot be replaced and so we need to get as many points whilst we have him, and all his remaining 4 games (if he returns at end of month) are on paper difficult.
A lot can happen in 16 games, and whilst I do not believe that one man makes a team, in Ramsey's case it appears true.
Plus our good run has also coincided with the return to the team of Bothroyd, and to a more recent extent the axing of Naylor.
