Knee problem..

Mon Feb 14, 2011 10:45 pm

Was just wondering if anybody could help me. I damaged my ligaments in my knee back in october playing football and just wondered if anybody had any advice on any training i could do to build the strength back? :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Dislocated my knee in august, bike work is the answer to that, not sure if thats all knee. Best bet is to go to a gym/physio to ask.

taking it extremely easy!

just started to get back into training myself and was in agony after doing simple stuff everyday

planning it out is the best thing, getting into a routine of resting, training, resting, training etc.

I started to do 2m monday, rest tuesday, 3m wednesday, rest thursday, 5m friday, rest saturday, 2m sunday

I've got a cardiotrainer app on my android phone as well which tracks distances, times, speed, calories etc.

keeping a record of what you do is best, seeing if you can beat your times, speed or w/e!

p.m me if you've got any problems or whatever :ayatollah:

I'm back running on it but when i finish the match or the run it get's stiff and swells up, so i struggle for a day or two after to do any work on it. I think a trip to the physio maybe on the cards to see if they can recommend any work i can do on it in the pool. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Had 5 ops (2 ligament reconstructions) on my knee. Work on your quads and hamstrings in the gym. This will tighten your ligaments which will keep your joint more stable. As for running , on a football pitch warm up with a couple of laps, then run in zig zags so you are starting to put a bit of strain on the joint, if too uncomfortable i'd seek a specialist . Hope this helps :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Make yourself a wobble board I made one from the side of a small cable drum and made a half ball shape out of a piece of 4x4 fencing post.Screw the half ball in the middle. Stand on it and slowly bend your body back and for.It strengthens your knee and the muscles around the ligaments. I snapped my cruciate and that was recommended by my physio. It also helps if you build up your hamstring in the gym after a serious knee ligament injury.Whatever you do don't try running/twisting too :old: early

Tore my cruciate ligaments and cartilage a couple of years back playing footie, carried on working manual work whilst waiting for a operation which fecked them up even more.

Bend your knee and get as much flexibility as you can before the op, the surgeon should tell you this. Once you have the op, again bend your knee to try and get the movement back as soon as possible, but don't overdo it.

Another thing I found great was standing on a inflated cushion so and trying to keep your balance as this will use other muscles in your knee that you will depend on a lot more now. I usually did this for around 10-15 mins every night. Gently get back into running and do lots of side steps and turns. Also get down the gym and do leg weights to build the muscles back up again, you will be surprised how weak your knee will be.

I made it back into football in around 6 months but I was training/in the gym every night. I still get the odd problem with the knee clicking and feel it's going to buckle when I play footie, but it's never going to be how it used to be.

Good luck with the recovery, it can be really frustrating at times but keep at it.
