looking for advice on drying out an iphone 4

Mon Feb 14, 2011 8:08 pm

Before you say yes I know what a tool, I finished on the treadmill and jumped into the pool but forgot to take my iphone out of shorts pocket (gutted). Anyone know any tricks without having to pay through the teeth?

Was it switched off when you did it ? And did you try switching it on before it had dried out. Absolute gutter Chief. I dropped my Nokia in a pint of Bud last year what a tool. It was fecked coz i tried turning it on straight away. An even bigger tool   Good luck Chief :ayatollah:

If you have a £600 phone you must have it insured?

No it is a company phone and they do not insure them, plus insurance don't pay out for water damage unless it was a flood.

You may get it dried out but eventually the guts of the phone will rust and it'll die on you.

I have managed to fix 2 iphones with water damage!

Worst thing to do is to switch it back on after it shorts out - as it usually blows the cells in the lithium-ion battery.....

You have to take the phone apart - taking out 13 tiny screws, and releasing 2 clips and 5 electronic ribbons. the whole thing needs blowing out with an Co2 Aerosol can, - re assembled but leave case off without battery in, leave in a closed tub of silica gel or Rice for 24-48hrs in a warm area. You will then need to replace the battery for a new one. Then re-assemble.

I can have a look at it for you, if you like - cant tell you how much it will cost until I've seen it tbh. But if you look inside the Earphone Jack and into the bottom charging dock of the phone - there are 2 pieces of gloss white paper, Usually after water damage they turn RED or Pinkish in colour usually meaning trouble.

Worst thing is, it usually spells trouble.!

And i just pm'd you too! please read. ;-)

Lads

Merlin

If the litmus paper has gone pink, a lot of the time nothing can be done? I had a guy come in the shop the other day. He had been to a foam party and the foam was actually inside the phone against the screen and camera lens. Poor sod

That's handy to know. If we see water damage on any phone when a customer wants to send it off for repair, we refuse. But at least I can give my customers a bit of advice about getting it repaired.
