Thu Jan 13, 2011 4:04 pm

I got a Acer 5315/2142 Laptop, At the Mo its running WINDOWS VISTA HOME , I dont have that disc. But I want to change it to Windows XP home edit ,I DO have the Windows XP home edit disc. Would there be any problems in doing this pls ? Has anyone ever done the same with the Acer 5315/ 2142 ? If so was it all ok or was there any kind of problems.

Cheers for that Gwyn, but just don't ask me if you are having problems with your hotmail

You can go from Vista to XP but you are better off wiping Vista off first though. I had to do this quite a lot in the past because Vista didn't like playing with Windows Server 2003, to hd to downgrade to XP pro.

I've got XP pro and come to think of it I've got Windows 7 Ultimate as well. If you want rid of Vista because of the problems it's got then Win 7 does work better and I think it's no slower than XP when using it.

Put your disc into the drive, go to computer and right click on the main drive holding your OS. Go to properties, then format the drive, if the laptop doesn't reboot itself, reboot with the xp home disc in drive and the wizzard should automatically prompt you to install the new OS. Just remember to save anything important 1st!!!!

The problem with Vista is Microsoft wanted to rush out the next 'big thing', and in doing so failed miserably.

the only thing i will say is make sure you either have a drivers disk, or access to another pc to download the drivers. Windows 7 is brilliant as it will pick up your display drivers, network/wireless drivers etc. But XP wont, you will need to install them all again. This proves a nightmare when you dont have the disk or access to a pc! :ayatollah: hope this helps

I put Win7 professional on a PC that was running WinXP earlier this week, IMO, runs just as quick.

Windows 7 runs just as quick, providing you've got the RAM to do it (1GB). Most modern PC's will at least have this though :ayatollah:

I'd say it was the opposite, they took too long with it and started adding in features that weren't originally planned. They took 7 years and spent $6billion on it when it should have taken 3 years!

I agree though, they did fail miserably!
