Cliff Jones wrote:Yeah that's right mate, anyway for the record our home leg (2nd leg) was played on Wed 2nd Feb 1966 and West Ham won 5-1 to win 10-3 on aggregate!
City got to the last four by beating Crewe at home, after a draw then Portsmouth, Reading and Ipswich when the Bluebirds were favoured with home draws. The first leg of the semi-final was played at Upton Park on Mon Dec 20th 1965 and City lost 5-2 with centre forward George Andrews scoring both goals for us.
The 2nd leg was some six weeks later! it was always going to be something of an anti-climax, we got beat 5-1. City's only goal coming from Aberfan boy Bernard Lewis, in the final minute George Johnstone missed a penalty for City.
CITY TEAM (2nd Leg) Lyn Davies, Graham Coldrick, David Yorath, Gareth Williams, Don Murray, Barrie Hole, Greg Farrell, George Johnstone, George Andrews, Peter King, Bernard Lewis.
An odd thing about these semi-finals is that programmes for both games are in short supply - particularly the game at Ninian Park.
Thanks for that Cliff , that was seriously interesting. 6 weeks!! Long time between games any special reason?
Also why were the programmes in such demand?
