Our Scouting Network

Mon Jan 10, 2011 9:36 am

Can any of you boys and girls who are privileged enough to know how things are being run behind the scenes at CCFC enlighten us about the strengths and weaknesses of our scouting network, both for talented young kids and for established players? Do we have scouts in other countries? Some clubs seem to unearth foreign gems for comparatively little money. To me it seems that we have have massive room for improvement. Are the Malaysians aware of the importance of this aspect of running a football club? Maybe as business people and not football people they are unaware. If Carl has a link to TG/VT can he raise the topic at his next meeting if he feels it's something that we can improve upon?

I cannot answer your question regarding overseas scouts but we have a meeting with Scott Young at the CCS tonight and perhaps we can find out.
The purpose of tonight's meeting is to see where we can help youth development with our new fund sponsored by the members of this board. In past years we lost a lot of talented young lads because of the facilities and they were lured to other clubs because of this.
Now Steve Borley, out of his own pocket has built the Academy and I can tell you it is so impressive and must be up there with the best. If a parent goes to the Academy with their talented child the question of facilities will no longer be an issue.
It is our intention to help the feeder system that feeds into the Academy as there is a desperate need for assistance to help with things like transport, facilities etc. A lot of this at the moment falls on the parents and we cannot afford to lose talent because their parents cannot afford to support them.
Steve Borley and many Cardiff City legends are backing our appeal and I like so many of our members feel that we have to do something that will be so beneficial to the future of our club.
We will of course let everyone know what happens tonight and a big thank you to all the members that have signed up so far and look forward to many more joining the cause.

I remember DJ talking about this topic on a radio chat show a while ago. He basicaly said that, apart from a fella [scout] up in Scotland, the rest of the scouting is done from the club itself. Not sure if things have changed since that interview.

Ridofrid,

Thank you for your answer earlier. Yes that would be brilliant if you could find out not only about plans for our youth system but also our scouting network for professionals. I suspect that we only have scouts in Scotland but if we are to be successful, especially if we do get to the Premier League, we need to have an efficient scouting network, not just on these isles but internationally too. We must make the Malaysians aware of this if they are not already. Cheers mate. Good luck with the meeting.

I work in Andover and the local academy is Southampton (25 miles away). Parents have to take their kids at own expense there as well.
