THE REASON I'M AVOIDING STOKE

Fri Jan 07, 2011 9:45 am

Lot's of links with Stoke, it was my first away game as a 12 yo in 1967, we lost 4-1 in the cup and the great Gordon Banks was in goals for Stoke. The atmosphere in and outside the ground was electric and even though I had been to many home games after this away game I was hooked on away games. A couple of weeks later I left home telling my parents I was off to watch Cardiff and Charlton, but forgot to tell them it was in Charlton, so whilst they were quite used to me leaving the house early on a Saturday, when I walked in at around 11pm they were a bit miffed  .

Anyway;- In the years between then and now somewhere along the way I have now wound up with two ex wives from Stoke (plus a few from down here, don't ask) both of the Stoke wives I met down here but I am convinced they were plants to rob and destroy me :o

I now have a 12yo son who lives with his mum in Stoke but I have him every other weekend and school holidays, which means I spend a big part of my time up and down to the God forsaken place, so call me plastic or a part timer but I'm sure some will understand, besides for that the F.A. Cup in my view at the moment is a distraction we can do with out, I want to see us playing Prem teams every week not occasionally in cup games.

So to those that are travelling, good on you please give a shout from me, keep safe and keep out of trouble. :old:
