fed up with the family stand policing

Thu Jan 06, 2011 12:18 am

last home game a 14yr old boy was moved to another part of the stadium for turning to the away fans whilst celebrating a goal i know the young lad and hes definetly not a troublemaker i asked people/families around him what he'd down and they all said he'd done nothing wrong..
lastnight some police officers where pointing young teens out for singing again and on a number of occasions coventry pushed towards the family stand or just stood there swearing and abusing families who are not much more than arms length.

one biggish guy in the coventry end didnt watch the game he was constantly shouting abuse and threats and at times pushing closer a copper next to him was milking it and laughing and joking with him and seemed to be encouraging him to do it but when parents in our end complained the police were telling them to more or less shut up and sit down.
i walked across my row and shouted to the copper that it was the coventry fan that needed to be moved or spoken to but another copper was heard saying on his radio that a guy in the silver jacket was being aggressive and then had a copper camera taping me. not once did i swear or threaten anyone the worse i said was grow a set of balls and speak to that guy instead of turning your backs on him to threaten young home fans..
again a few people who had young families approched me saying they agreed with what i had done/said and they also heard the police saying to video me for being aggressive.
i went to speak to the main steward and explained what had happened and he radio'd in and sent someone up there.
another steward who was near to where we sit came up and said that he also witnessed it and it looked like the coventry lad and the copper must be mates or related.
just wonder if anyone else witnessed this copper or the biggish coventry lad with dark hair..

2nd half i came and stood by the away fans in the nin stand. and you could see alot of ''dads'' and ''older men'' in the family stand getting pissed off. the club said it would police itself. we'll there were alot of complaints vs forest, im sure millwall wernt wishing you good day either, and nor were the jacks. so it seems it isnt working.
there will come a time when people wont want to take young children if they are close to the away fans, and it shouldnt be like that.
and there will come a time when you for example get worked up and you will be the one getting done for preotecting your kid and youngsters around you.
if i had a young kid with me in there, and some one threw a coin or something id go spare!!!!

songs with swearing and the odd gesture i suppose most can tolerate towards the family stand but not constantly for 90mins. you shouldnt have to put up with it!!!

RANT OVER

i expect banter and swearing and to be fair although a few were a bit over the top most millwall were pretty tidy with banter and some even give thumbs up as we were leaving at the end..
forest were twats and the leeds scum just as bad..
it winds me up watching police pointing at 12 yr old kids when the away fans are spitting and shouting threats and abuse 2 feet away

What you find then is that Familys and children then come into the canton end to avoid abuse. This then helps kill the atmos in the canton. There has been times when I've tried to start a song and I get looked at like a just killed there cat!!!

Something needs to change!!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

As soon as we scored on Tuesday the police were immediately signalling for us to sit down in the Family End, when the fans a few feet away had been stood up the whole game. The police were shouting at individuals and pointing them out as much as 20 / 30 feet away and giving warnings when the away fans right next to them standing and shouting abuse and gestering the whole game it's insane. My daughter doesn't want to go very much now as got scared at one game, and my mate had to phone his wife one game to come and get his 2 youngest at half time as they were scared with grown man directing abuse right in our faces. Personnally I love being right next to the away fans, just the kids don't and they're the reason I'm in the family end!

I agree with Milly. It seems the club is cutting down on policing costs but risking losing a chunk of the next generation of fans. As Milly said, who wants to bring their kid to a game to be exposed to such abuse? The Family Stand was more popular in the Spa End at Ninian Park than it was in the Grandstand because of its position to the away fans.

Sooner or later the club is going to have to swap the Grange End and Canton Stand around because otherwise it will drastically affect our attendances. This is skirting around the issue that swapping them would also improve the atmosphere to no end as well!
