I've been talking with my brother about this for a while now and we reckon we need a new goalkeeping coach. Think back to all the keepers we've had over the past 6 years and how many have actually been decent. Even the likes of Ross Turnbull and David Forde who have carved decent reps for themselves away from our club have been distinctly shit for us.
Now David Marshall seems to have gone down hill rapidly and Tom Heaton hasn't really made any progress, he's still safe but not outstanding.
Basically, no goalkeeper has improved as a player when they've joined us and bar one or two they have all become worse players in my eyes. What do you lads reckon? Is it the goalkeeping coach who is the problem or the players themselves?

I agree, Georgie Wood was a class keeper in his day, same can't be said about Margetson !

Peter shilton for cardiff

Even Tony Warner was decent before he came here

Tom Heaton hasnt made any progress?
He's been here less than a season (apart from the loan spell) and has broken into the starting line-up.

100% agree with that statement.
not a single goalkeeper as improved whilst playing for us.
even looking back at Alexander.
Always a good shot stopper but if you remember his first few games for us - he was coming off the line and catching balls.
just a few weeks training with our coaches and he was glued permenantly to his line.
Just like Marshall.

The problem is.. we've NEVER had one of those TOP CLASS keepers. You see Nottingham Forest with Lee Camp, Coventry with Keiron Westwood, QPR with Paddy Kenny etc. Then you see us with David Marshall and Tom Heaton, it's not quite the same

But they don't stand out as one of the great keepers of the league do they? The only keepers who I can remember being one of the best in the league was when we had Kasper Schmeichel and Neil Alexander, they were both amazing at the time for us. Like you said, we had David Forde a few seasons ago and he was terrible, now he's doing a brilliant job at Millwall after being with Middlesborough I believe? But anyway, maybe that could be to do with the goalkeeper coach.. when you think about it.

We all know that was the Jack in him though
Back to Margetson though. He's a right tw*t,same age as me in school and he's one big headed c**t i tell thee.Don't think he played much as a keeper, always the understudy at Man City.

Nah,think he went to Glanafan,i was in Dyffryn. What did you think of him in school,Cardiff City bias' aside?

Did he ever play?? I know he was no.2/3 at man city and no.2 when he came to us.
I've always said he's a shit coach and that all the keepers we had under his supervision haven't been able to kick the ball properly, proved that tonight against Leeds, Heatons distribution was awful and I could see Quinn passing the message to Heaton to throw the ball to our full-backs.
Martyn Margetson is picking up decent money for being a shit coach in my eyes.

Thought heaton was brilliant tonight
