Cardiff City are on the verge of snapping up Everton striker James Vaughan in a £1million deal - forcing a host of Premier League suitors to battle it out for Jay Boothroyd.

The England international is rated at around £2million, with Fulham among a hosted of interested clubs in the running to sign him, with Cardiff ready to cash in on rather than let the striker leave for nothing when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Bothroyd, 28, who has also been linked with former club Arsenal and Birmingham, has missed Cardiff's last three games with a hamstring injury.

Vaughan, meanwhile, is close to agreeing terms on a two-and-a-half year contract with the Championship high-flyers and could make his Bluebirds debut against Leeds United next Tuesday.
