New signings...why?

Wed Dec 29, 2010 10:50 am

Lets be honest, we have a great crop of players here (The best squad since sliced bread according to DJ), so why do we need to strengthen?

The way I see it at the moment is that DJ can't get the formation/tactics right. He tries to accommodate his best/favourite players for example playing Chopra wide or RAE ON THE WING lol

My point is if we bring in say two good centre backs Gabbidon and Woodgate for example, then DJ still wont drop Hudson.

If he brings in another striker say Howard, then where would they play? Would he drop Jay? Where would it leave Keogh?

If he brings in Routlege then that means Burke will be left out in the cold. And according to us fans Burke makes Routlege look shit lol

All this to me is wrong as we have quality players already they just need to be managed correctly and given games at the right time. It helps when players are played in their best position, I'd love to see Koumas given a more centre role, he's not got the legs any more, not sure he did in the first place mind!

If we bring in players they must be wwwaayyy better than what we got otherwise there is no point.

My view:

If Bothroyd & Bellamy plays we should play Jay up top and Bellamy & Burke either side. With Ollifinjana Mcphail (Koaumas) and Whittingham in the middle (Ollie the deepest).

If Bothroyd is injured then simpley swap for Keogh.

When Chopra plays it must be in a 4-4-2 formation with him running of the 'big' striker and on the shoulder of the CBs. Chopra should only play when Bellamy is out, this then means we play Chopra & Jay/Keogh up front with Burke and Whittingham on the wings and Mcphail/Koumas with Ollie in the middle.

Defence is a whole new story.....

I would play Darcy every game possible, last season the more he played the better he got. I would also play Gabor over Hudson but if fit give Riggot the chance.

RB I would play Matthews as often as I can and stick with him, look at Kyle Walker for QPR, Matthews can do the same...destroy left midfielders up and down with bags of energy.

LB speaks for itself super Kev first name on the teamsheet.

Dave Jones step up its down to you

Look at the bench yesterday.

22 Heaton, 06 Gyepes, 14 Quinn, 04 Rae, 19 Koumas, 27 Matthews, 28 Wildig

awful. We don't have good options on the bench when as little as 2 players get injured or can't play. Burke is the only out and out right winger we have so signing another in Routledge might not be a bad idea as Burke is rumoured to be leaving. Right now we need enough quality players to push Rae , Matthews, Wildig, Quinn and Gyepes off the bench so that means signing those players now,
Woodgate = Hudson takes Gyepes's place on the bench.

Routledge = He/Burke take Rae's place on the bench.

Howard = Keogh/Howard taking Quinn's place on the bench

the the bench would look like this for example...

Heaton, Hudson, Keogh, Routledge, Koumas, 27 Matthews, 28 Wildig

Looks a lot better no? and thats the bench for example when Bellamy and Jay Bothroyd are out. When they are back then the bench will be even stronger. So i think signing a few more players would help us a lot + make next seasons job of signing enough players to make a squad less of a massive job.

lol, people still make me laugh saying to get Hudson out of the team. Am I watching a different game? He was terrible last year without a doubt. This year, I never see him lose a header, he reads the game well to intercept passes. He times his challenges to perfection to make up for the lack of pace. He just needs Riggott alongside him more often. Instead of holding a grudge cos he wasnt too good the first season, actually watch how he performs next time. Hudson has been very good this season.

yes definately by far been our best defender this year and saved us on a number of occasions but people just can't see it. If it was Gyepes then people would see it :ayatollah:

Not being funny but that bench is pretty good for the championship.

22 Heaton - came from Man U (must have some quality for this league)
06 Gyepes - Hungarian international helped us to playoff final,
14 Quinn - hasn't been given a chance, started badly but showed heroics against Leicester last season,
04 Rae - helped us get to a FA Cup final and is a hard worker, not the best but good cover if not played RM,
19 Koumas - not given a run plus he is a playmaker that should be given freedom not stuck on the left,
27 Matthews - touted to joing a big prem club last year if only given the chance,
28 Wildig - decent youngster needs games can score a goal.

The problem is players won't come here to sit on the bench unless we give them silly money.
