in the team now?
think he helped the whole side today with his passes and calmness?
anyone else agree?

In my opinion I would agree with that, nobody apart from Whittingham can pick out a pass like Mcphail.

McPhail had a great game today for sure.
However, he does become a liability once the pace of the game picks up so one swallow doesn't make a summer.
The most important thing today was Dave Jones (or probably Terry Burton) finally hatched a plan B. Instead of always booting the ball straight up field, Whits, Olly and McPhail all looked to get the ball out to our best player, Craig Bellamy.
The service to Bellamy was so good that our Captain was able to make things happen and all our best work came from the left-flank.
If Bothroyd returns (assuming he hasn't been sold along with Burke) then we would be able to mix things up and become a lot less predictable.

My man of the match today - showed a calmness alomng with riggot at the back that we have been missing and McPhail showed some quality touches
A much more balanced team - Only down side no burke - Any clues ?

No denying McPhail is a good footballer but we cannot afford to carry
passengers in our formation. If he ups his work rate when we are under
the cosh then great. Sadly as you say, when things start hotting up he
tends disappear from a game.

most certainly. With him in the team he can supply bellamy, chops and bothroyd. Bellamy actually referred to the fact that mcphail in the team gave him more possession. Actually i thought keogh gave bellamy a lot of ball but thats another matter.
whitts was a passenger yesterday for much of the game.

Has to start IMO....Bellamy was VERY complimentary about McPhail
