Bushmills 40 year old is as smooth as it gets for me....and tops my list :)

Other 'top' malts include:

Glen Morangie
Glenfiddich
Glen Livet
Jamesons (Irish)
Penderyn (Welsh but pricey)

Any of those could keep me company on a lonely night....

First time I tried Penderyn, I really wanted to like it... guess what... I love it!

All serious whisky drinkers should give it a go...surprising after taste of raisins and toffee!

Same here  Just the smell makes me heave my guts up. Went on an all night bender with me old boss when a teenager. Worked for a building firm and he owned a pub in Caldicot. He used to drink a bottle a day and I tried to match him - more fool me  I stick strictly to the bow when I|'m on a bender now  Lager on a quiet night when I gotta behave myself

That's a good one Rick.

For those looking for something a bit touristy to do in Scotland, I recommend the Glenfiddich distillery tour. It's absolutely free and you get to try the 12, 15 and 18 at the end.

I had a bottle of Lagavulin 16 yr old a couple of Xmases ago, a beautiful dram.

Got my focus on one of the affordable Scapas. haven't sampled one from this distillery yet.

The Royal and Ancient Millennium Blend. The Royal and Ancient was a triple gold medal winning blend (so must have been a few years old to start with), which was then blended with 9 hogsheads of the finest malt whisky from two celebrated Speyside Distilleries by Cockburn and Campbell in 1970 and left to mature for a further 28 years. I have tasted this with my friends against some very fine whiskies (some costing up to £300 per bottle, such as very rare Middleton and Ballantine's 30 year old [none bought at those prices mind]) and they were all blown away by the R + A MB. We even tried it against 8 top cognacs and armagnacs (Remy XO, Vintage Delamain, Marquis de Puyseguir 20yr, Baron Sigognac 25yr) and some of the group who prefer cognac and Armagnac still preferred the R + A MB. Unfortunately, this whisky only turns up at auction occasionally, but sells at less than £50, so is a real bargain.

I only drink Johnnie Walker Black Label. I only drink it neat as well. I dont understand people who drink such on the rocks. Weird. Why water down a lovely tipple?

Whisky is meant to be drank with a small drop of water as it enhances the flavour  Personally I like mine with one ice cube and let it melt slightly before drinking. Johnnie Walker Black Label is a blended whisky and not a single malt so not one for us connoisseurs ;)

I enjoy a drop of Jura

They do 4 different ones,
Origin - unpeated
Superstition - lightly peated (this one is my favourite)
Prophecy - heavily peated
Duirach's own - smooth unpeated (most expensive too)

I am partial to a few others
Bowmore
Bunnahabhain
Laphroaig
Ardbeg
Caol ila

All are classed as Islay whiskey, very distinctive flavour due to the water used in the distillery process which I believe filters through peaty soil, hence the smokey peaty flavours, some stronger than others. Jura is my fav though. :thumbright:

Love my whiskey although no expert.

When I worked at the airport I had a bottle of Penderyn given to me because they couldn't take it in the hand luggage. Loved it.

Also they do a 'Baileys' using it called Merlyn and that is top notch, real good.

Jura superstition is nice, smokey and peated.

Dalmore is nice as is Glenlivet.

Gave the missus old man a bottle of Penderyn to see what he thought of it. Had a look the other day and most of it gone. Gave some to his old man so he likes it then it passes the test!

Didn't like Jura.

Dalmore depending which year can be exceptional.
