Wonder how much ?

Will mean we need 2 centre halfs in if he goes though. Short of cover there.

Hasnt really worked out for him here, probably a good move all round.

At times he's looked very good, other times ponderous. His first dozen games he was outstanding, then he got injured and then sent off vs Sheff utd and hasnt regained his confidence since.

Would create some room on the payroll.

ONLY GOOD IF WE REPLACE HIM WITH BETTER !

I'd say thats a good deal for us.

keano really likes us - £150k for Kennedy as well.

Not as much as Plymouth mind - remember £500k for McLean -no wonder they are up shit street.

Re: gyepes

Thu Dec 23, 2010 8:43 pm

could be a good deal all round, and the talk of shittu possibly joining on a free.

Re: gyepes

Always played well alongside Kennedy so maybe a good move allround.

Re: gyepes

I always felt Gyepes gets harsh treatment by us. For a player who's career was over and his knee destroyed he has done remarkably well and he's one of the smartest CB's i've seen following City knows what he can and can't do.

I remember when Naylor had a mare against Millwall, DJ left him on because he's a DJ favourite, and Gyepes covered for Naylor and himself but yet people just slated that he wasn't always there at CB ignoring that he was playing two positions.

He's not the best by a long shot, but there are far worse.

Re: gyepes

He's far far better than Hudson. Funny how not one of our centre backs look as good when Hudson is alongside them.

Darcy and Gerrard- Different Class
Darcy and Gabor- Solid
Gerrard and Hudson- Poor lack pace
Gabor and Hudson- As above

Gabor and Roger were superb together (Granted Roger is different class but he was equally as effective)

Problem is Hudson not Gabor but Jones will move everyone around him except the actual main problem!!!

So when did you see Blake and gyepes play together ?

Gypes a few seasons ago was awesome . But now i rate him as no better than Hudson. Did Gypes become shit on his own accord or is he been another one destroyed by DJ ?

Gerrard and Blake were by far our best CB pairing last season.

Not bad games, although we were creaking against Leicester, hence Gyepes sending off.

No clean sheets mind, so nothing fantastic.

One thing to notice was that Quinn played all 4 - culminating in a MOM performance against leicester.

I'd like to see a bit more of him when he's fit.

Gerrard and Blake statistically were, but then they were lucky not to come up against a genuine big centre forward who would have found them out for lack of size. They only played a handful of gmaes together and I was never convinced. despite the good run we really seemed to have a lot of luck - Forest, Swansea and Reading come to mind when missed chances and shoddy finishing saved us. Seeing the likes of Church and Kuqi winning headers so easily worried me a lot.

I also think he gets a raw deal. Ok, so not the paciest but always sticks his body on the line for us and his rugby tackle against Vaughan v Leicester confirmed his committment to the city cause. I wouldn't let him go until I knew if Riggott could last a game - will we ever find out...

Re: gyepes

Fri Dec 24, 2010 7:39 am

Gabor's first season with us I thoght he did really although I think he really benefitted from playing with Roger Johnson to cover for his lack of pace. Against Palace away when Roger was taken out by that tw*t Davies, Gabor was magnificent together with Superkev at centre back.

He thoroughly deserved the new contract he was awarded at the end of that season but then came the infamous Preston game when it all fell apart. Fatty Parkin outsprinted him and gave him a torrid time from which he never really recovered.

Since then he's blown hot and cold and looks very nervous at times and is particularly poor in possession of the ball.

I still prefer him to Hudson though and think that with a quicker partner alongside him he could still do a job.

For me he will always be remembered for that superb rugby tackle against Leicester last season and for taking one for the team.

If he does go in January he goes with our thanks and best wishes.

So as I said above Jonesy keeps looking to fix the situation but the only constant during all this woeful defending he wont take out of the team.

Very wrong!!!!

Clearly Hudson doesn't inspire any confidence to those around him. Considering he is team captain most of the time that is not acceptable!.

Gabor with a pacey centre back is fine as was proved with Roger and Darcy!

Wouldn't that also suggest he was being pulled out of position? Why was he wandering off to cover a full back leaving the centre back position he was meant to fill exposed? I never noticed this, but, if he was doing so, this shows poor judgement by him. It would be down to the midfielder to drop back and help out the full back, surely?

If we got any kind of offer, decent or not, I would get shot of Gyepes. I never really rated Shittu, but I'm coming round to the fact that, in our defence, he could be a very good signing

Sorry, i dont agree.

Firstly I dont agree that Johnson is 'pacy', secondly after theSheff utd game Gyepes was dire for the rest of his first season.

Thirdly he only played FOUR games with Blake - nothing to judge on there. One of the problems with Gyepes is he is quiet, so communication wasnt great with these 2.

Fourthly his partnership with Hudson has been OK - a similar number of goals per game compared to his allegedly great partnership with Blake.

Fifthly the worst he's played has been alongside Gerrard (Preston , Barnsley, Newcastle...) . Not suprising as Gerrard was doing the calling, as a far less experienced player than Gyepes you can see where this would go wrong.

By the way, for all the praise given by many for the Blake-Gerrard partnership, they conceded 6 in the 7 games thay played together (rather than the eight clean sheets someone else on here quoted), which is only slighly less per game than the goal-a-game we've conceded this season. (and the goal a game we conceded with Blake and Gyepes in their 4 game spell).

Remembering some of the chaos against Forest, closest near miss of the season against Reading, save of the season against the Jacks, I dont think that this makes the pairing as fantastic as some seem to think.

As a centre half he couldnt just leave it.

Saw a similar thing at Reading this year when Hudson had to come into the RB position to take every header that was coming to matthews as Matthews is so poor in the air. Luckily Hudson won the headers easily, (Reading are not a big side and most of the time he was jumping against Hunt) although it generally led to a throw-in to Reading.

Personally I'd like to see Quinn or Blake and McNaughton in the full back spots. I'd ague that the left back spot is currently a bigger weakness than centre half. Quinn hasnt got the skill or passing of Naylor or Matthews, but at least he can tackle and mark, and cut out crosses -same for Blake. Problem is I dont know when Quinn will be back and Blake cant last 90 minutes these days.

Re: gyepes

I think that a few people are a little too critical of some players, Gabor has been a good player for us and is clearly good enough for this level. Its just that we would like to move forward and have a bit more quality at the back.

Some fans get on Naylors back and Kennedy before him and these people are clearly numpties. Every team that comes to the CCS attack the left side because they know we are weakest there, not because of the full back but because of the full backs lack of protection from his winger - Whittingham. This guy does not track back quickly enough, tackles very rarely and ball watches. While we are we have goal threat down the left hand side that is also our weaker side defensively. On the other side of the pitch we have Burke who runs all day and picks his man up which is why he works so well with McNaughton and Matthews. This is why I believe we should be playing McNaughton on the left as he is stronger defensively than Naylor and give Matthews some more game time.

Gerrard was a long ball merchant and started this season clearly overweight. It will be interesting to see what happens at the end of his loan spell
