" ANY WELSH PLAYER THAT PLAYS FOR GREAT BRITAIN NEXT YEAR IN THE OLYMPICS "
etc Bale/Ramsey etc The Welsh FA Said They Will Ban them from playing for Wales again.
MY PERSONAL OPINION PATHETIC and THEY NEED TO SORT THIS OUT, ITS LIKE THEY HAVE BANNED US IN EUROPE, CARDIFF CITY SHOULD ALSO BE IN EUROPE EVERY SEASON.

Thats ridiculous

what a joke absolute joke

I agree. The Olympics is the biggest sporting event in the world alongside the World Cup. We all know that appearing at the World Cup may be beyond Wales for a long, long time so why shouldn't Bale and Ramsey be allowed to play in the Olympics? If the Welsh FA struggle to get players to turn up for games, which does happen at the top clubs such as the ones these 2 play for, the players could refuse to play for Wales as a matter of principle against the Welsh FA. They're playing a dangerous game here

I've got to disagree with you on this one. Retaining our status with FIFA is paramount I believe, and to agree to the proposal is too much of a risk.
If the FAW did agree to this it could lead to Wales losing it's identity as a footballing nation. That would leave Welsh fans with no international team to support. No way could I cheer on those English prima donna's.....I'd rather we never qualified for a tournament than lose our status.
I'm backing the FAW on this one for a change.
Anyway, I really can't see any passionate Welsh players bucking the trend and agreeing to play for the GB as they fully understand the situation.
It's the Welsh dragon or nothing for me..........it's certainly not the three lions.

I happen to agree actually.
Im sure Fifa have said if they play for team GB that it wont effect Wales but lets be honest we can trust Fifa as far as we can throw Stepp Blatter.
Wed Dec 22, 2010 5:29 pm
i hope Bale and Co call their bluff.
Newport County ran rings aroundthe WFA in court ,something I have always admired them for.
Wed Dec 22, 2010 5:35 pm
FIFA did state that, but as you say to trust Blatter would be foolish.
Lets not take the risk.

We dont want our players playing for GB, it threatens our very existence as a footballing nation. Fifa have been trying to get us to merge for years in order to try and limit the amount of power the home nations have in footballing matters. World Cup debacle aside the home nations effectively have 4 votes and they want that limited to 1.
I cant get behind that.

Got to agree with this to be honest. I think it will be the beginning of the end for Scotland, Wales and NI if players back this.
Wed Dec 22, 2010 6:02 pm
In 2009, a compromise was eventually reached between the four associations, whereby a squad of

English

players only could represent Great Britain. The FAs of Northern Ireland, Scotland and

Wales

sent a joint letter to FIFA stating that they would not participate, but that they would not object to

England

participating alone.
Wed Dec 22, 2010 6:25 pm
Thats f*cking bollocks if it ends up that way.
Wed Dec 22, 2010 6:29 pm
Dont trust FIFA an inch!
Wed Dec 22, 2010 6:39 pm
I still watch Wales' games but more out of loyalty than any real hope. As far as I'm concerned Welsh International Football died in 2003 when we fucked up big time against Russia in the Euro 04 play-off.
I would have no problem with Bale/Ramsey playing for a GB Olympic team. I also very much doubt FIFA would have much luck in trying to take away international status for Wales/Scotland and N Ireland should players from those countries play for GB.
The smaller nations within FIFA (which easily outnumber the bigger ones) would support us as they might feel threatened themselves should FIFA succeed, not to mention it would be a legal minefield taking away a privilege enjoyed by Wales for over 130 years as one of the oldest FA's in world football.

Stick to that then.

Annis,
I personally have a lot of time for you but if this happens, the GB team is formed and in the future FIFA decide the Scottish, Northern Irish and Welsh team are expendable, I will blame you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We might at present have no chance of qualifying but if people like you make this impossible. Just my opinion of course.

Annis,
That don't cut any ice.
I personally think the Welsh FA are awaste of space but I don't want the right of the Welsh people to have a WELSH FOOTBALL TEAM REPRESENT THEM TO BE PUT AT RISK.

Spike, I am only Stating what is happening, Not My Decision, I Follow Wales every where and I Dont Believe they will ever take Our Indepance away from us as a Football Nation. Just Saying the Facts as they are .
Were talking about the Olympic games.
Wed Dec 22, 2010 7:15 pm
If the best welsh players dont play then our international game will, be destroyed its not good now.
I know the Welsh FA are run by idiots but then so is the english FA and fifa however I think Wales Scotland & Ireland are being daft and let the players play in the olympics
Wed Dec 22, 2010 7:17 pm
Annis, the four home nations have a fair amount of power, voting wise, within FIFA.
Many nations are unhappy with that.
There's a massive risk thus by havcing a joint GB team.
Let Bale and Ramsey play... the price of Wales ceasing to exist in international football isn't worth paying.
Plus, the Olympics was always intended to be for amateurs... not professionals...

Not really, no.
People like JAck Warner don't care about that - their view is can't pick and choose when you want to be individual nations.
Wed Dec 22, 2010 7:22 pm
We should never never never risk our welsh players just so the english can say in years to come, we won gold. And it will be under an english flag the jack ! and Wales is not on that flag! Sorry Welsh or nothing.
Wed Dec 22, 2010 7:29 pm
The Olympics have lost all credibility in recent years, with micky mouse sports recognised as" Olympic Sports". What a joke, you think that we as a Welsh nation should give up our Welsh Football team, in order that a couple of youngsters be able to participate in the Olympics, in a sport that shouldn't even be in the Olympics.
Cmon get real.
This is really not on
Wed Dec 22, 2010 7:35 pm
Out of curiousity have anyone from FIFA ever said Wales, Scotland and Ireland would lose their identity if they took part in the Olympics ?

Wed Dec 22, 2010 7:45 pm
Yeah right Carl why would they!!!!!!!!
They will wait until a precedent has been set, then wham no WELSH, SCOTTISH or NORTHERN IRISH football team.
Would we as proud WELSH FOOTBALL FANS WANT TO RISK THAT CARL.
I would welcome your comments Carl?
