" DAVE JONES ALWAYS SAYS... "

Wed Dec 22, 2010 2:24 pm

That he gives the youngsters a chance...

BUT he only gives the youngsters coming through a chance if he has no other option, down to injury's suspensions, and even then he would jump at the chance to but the senior players back in e.g mathews, when wildig scored against newcastle, black hasn't featured enought this season.

all of these players have come on leaps and bounds this past season, yet we never see them in the first team.

our midfield has been dier of late so why not take a gamble and throw wildig in the middle, who we've heard has come on leaps and bounds in the strength and stamina area.

naylor has been our worse defender, yet one mistake by mathews at ipswich has probabley cost him his place at cardiff, yet naylor can get away with about 10 mistakes a match.

Matthews hasn't been the same since the Newcastle game last season. He appears to have gone back IMHO, and appears dodgy defensively (caught out for second goal against Forest)

the errors he has made are most probabley down to lack of consistancey, he could play a blinder but he knows that as soon as naylor is fit he will be in the team ahead of him, jones has to many favourites...

Kennedy last year.
McPhail two seasons ago.
Chopra when McCormack couldn't buy a game.
Hudson this year.

If I was Jones I would'nt play any of our youngsters. Matthews has been poor when he has played and been the cause for 2 or 3 goals. Whits, Oli, Drinkwater, Mcphail, Rae and Koumas in the center, Wildig does'nt stand a chance, Neither is he good enough.
I have said all along, If Jones does to Mathews what Harry has done with Bale we could see a fantastic player. Play him in midfield and take away his defencive duties, Just like Bale.

jones will never do that with mathews tho, far to stubborn.
also, whittingham has been poor, drinkwater is being played on the wing :? mcphail rae and koumas are past it, so why not throw wildig in there to mix it up a bit?

DJ doesn't understand that Matthews is not a fullback.
Wildig seemed super solid against Hull (I think)
Jarvis should get his chance too, we can't seem to score, perhaps he can?

Kennedy was solid for the most part, in a position that we have never been that strong in. Are you saying you would have liked Jones to play Matthews at LB, when he can only barely cope at RB. McPhail has always taken flack because he isn't an attacking player. He has always played well in his role of distributing and slowing the play. Chopra's been dropped recently, so are you saying Chopra's only sometimes DJs favourite? Hudson has been our best defender this year, and he was fairly good last year.

kennedy? solid? are we talking about the same person here? the same player who consitantly could pick out one pass in the whole game so istead he would just hoff it up the line, the same kennedy who would get to the bye line and find row Z with his ''cultured left foot'' not to mention the lack of pace and positional awearness.
no i wouldn't of put mathews at left back, i would of put mcnaughton over to the left and and put mathews to the right. McPhail was right to get slated because him would rather play the ball backwards and sidewards and slow the game down when the was a simple ball AHEAD of him which he could of played.
Tell me where i said Hudson has been bad this year? i know he's been out best defender this year, but that's no great achievment is it?
yes, Chopra WAS jones' favourite when McCormack was here, put since then they have both had arguements and you know what happens when jones and a player fall out. They become overweight and have a bad attitude, McCormack, Gerrard & now Chopra.

Kennedy was always a decent enough defender. He could put in a strong tackle and clear the ball, which is most of the job of a defender. Being strong when attacking is a bonus in any team. McPhail wasn't right to get slated because he became the scapegoat when he wasn't doing much wrong. The defence as a whole hasn't been that bad as suggested with the backhanded compliment to Hudson (it just hurts some people to say something good about him). It isn't like we've conceded much more than previous seasons, if we actually have conceded more at all. Didn't Gerrard become overweight during the Summer away from the squad? If so, I'm delighted for Jones to fall out with him because anyone who doesn't respect the chance to play football for a living, and at Cardiff City no less, enough to do something as basic as keep in shape should be barracked with abuse as far as I'm concerned.

he fell out with gerrard after the play off final for not playing.
but as for kennedy, he rarely ever did tackle, he got skinned far to often and outpaced. This ''clear the ball'' claim is fair enough at times yes, you do have to just kick it away to safety but not every time, the main part kennedy would simply give the ball away.
also, the ''bonus'' that a defender has whilst being able to attack is exatley what mathews and mcnaughton have.
As for hudson, i think the only thing he lacks is pace, he's a good championship player, i have never slated him this season or last.
McPhail, i personally feel he was right to get slated, he would offer nothing to the team for the majority of the game, he does the odd good ball here and there but apart from that he's a backwards and sideways man, also he gives away stupid freekicks at the edge of the box and also gets himself booked needlessly. you also said that people didn't like McPhail because he wasn't attackive enough, well what is he then? he's labbeled as a ''playmaker'' and he certainly can't tackle?

Mathews can not be critisised when we have the dreadful defence we have and no one in their right mind can say naylor has been better.

The difference with youngsters they may get better as naylor gypes and hudson are at their peak and thats not good enough.

Jones is poor with the youngsters was at wolves and is here, gunter and ramsay does not like the bloke and when I heard that jones enquired about Ramsay I laughed as Rambo wouldnt come back here while jones is in charge, and gunter thinks the same to think it took Toshack to shame Jones in picking Gunter.

I have spoken to a few youngsters at the club and they feel they wont get a chance with Jones.

Matthews is not defender to lightweight but could be outstanding in midfield. But Jones has got it against youngsters i wonder why :?:

I don't want to criticise DJ again tonight, but if he has really had such a hard time with the club not giving him money for players over the years, then he would have had to use far more youngsters than he has. For every possible reason there is, we need to bring through as many youngsters as possible - and they have to be given a chance. Granted, if they're not good enough then don't - but no one can say Wildig, Matthews, Meades are not good enough until they get given a proper chance,

In any case, is it down to DJ to ensure a player comes back to pre-season fit? Argument or not, I don't think much blame can be placed on Jones for a player acting up and getting fat. It's a possibility, but I think McNaughton is far less comfortable on the left side, so playing a natural left sided player isn't entirely absurd, be it Kennedy, or Naylor. Isn't one of the recent criticisms of DJ that he plays people out of position anyways!? I'd label McPhail as a level head in the midfield. He's a fantastic passer of the ball, even if he doesn't split defences left, right and centre. He slows down the play and holds on to possession, it's a fantastic attribute to have for teams to dictate the game.

vikinblue - Do you seriously think Matthews is the powerhouse we need in midfield? Olofinjana is the man who should be playing this role, and to begin with he did. It's a shame that recently, something has changed, he has been pushing further forward unnecessarily, leaving Whittingham exposed. He's not a tackler, he never has been, he's being forced to play a role that isn't and shouldn't be his.

Re: " DAVE JONES ALWAYS SAYS... "

Thu Dec 23, 2010 5:03 am

We all have our thoughts on who should play and in what position and it's disappointing when Jonesy plays it a different way and the results don't seem to be happening as they should considering our squad, but at the end of the day there's only one job on the line here, that of Jonesy. If he is keen to keep his £750,000 a year coming in then obviously he needs to play a winning team, bearing that in mind the team he puts out for every game is obviously the one he considers as the one that's gonna win and so keep him in a job and make him a succesful manager.

If we don't go up he's a free agent simple as. I think it can be easy to pick a team when your a fan and the responsibility doesn't rest on your head, the trouble is at the end of the day we all lose out as promotion once again goes down the pan. :(
