" CARDIFF CITY and THE TRANSFER MARKET SO FAR "

Mon Dec 20, 2010 4:52 pm

For those who Doubted US in the Summer, Look What NAME IS BACK ON DAVE JONES JANUARY WISH LIST.

" STEVEN HOWARD " CITY HAVE ONCE AGAIN BEEN LOOKING AT HIM, Howard and his agent have both said yes COME AND GET ME.
But Howard wants a Minimum 2 year deal and for this to be His last move, Howard has told his agent how impressed he is with the Cardiff Set up.

WHAT WILL CITY DO ? Howard is 34 years old, WILL THEY OFFER THAT LENGTH OF CONTRACT FOR A PLAYER THAT AGE ?

Dave Jones is also looking at Central Midfielder Nick Montgomery from Sheffield UTD.

Dont forget Loovens, Routledge and Hammill are Also Targets for Dave Jones.

I dont think giving him a 2 year contract should be much of a problem despite his age but I wouldnt be keen to pay a transfer fee for someone of that age.

Re: " CARDIFF CITY and THE TRANSFER MARKET "

Take one of Routledge or Hammil and get another centreback in and a left back.

Re: " CARDIFF CITY and THE TRANSFER MARKET "

Mon Dec 20, 2010 4:59 pm

I am a big fan of Howards, think he we would be an excellent addition and a 2 year contract should be offered.

One thing I'm worried about is whether this signifies DJs intention to play long ball football, but I would hope that he's neither stupid enough to persue this style of football nor miss out on the chance to get this guy.

tbh hes worth a go, i think hes got at least 1 good season in him ,everytime ive seen him against us ive really rated him, but when ive seen him against other teams hes been quiet,

Re: " CARDIFF CITY and THE TRANSFER MARKET "

Mon Dec 20, 2010 5:01 pm

Well, he gave Fowler+Hasselbaink contracts at 36. I don't see a problem with giving the type of player we need a contract until he's at the age of 36?
Worth a punt imho, Hasselbaink was a decent punt, grabbed a few decent goals :ayatollah:

Re: " CARDIFF CITY and THE TRANSFER MARKET "

Always rated Howard, and still think he could do a job for us at his age. A right handful for any defence and obvious backup for Bothroyd. Which reminds me - all that talk of him being approached by Prem sides during his England call up has all but disappeared. Hope it's not the calm before the storm.

Yeah but they only had 1 year deals initially.

Hammill would be brilliant signing, but I'd prefer to sign centrebacks and Howard

NO NO NO

HOWARD IS A GERIATRIC DONKEY

NO NO NO A FUCKIN MILLIONS TIME NO

I'D TAKE CAMERON TOSHACK OVER HIM

None of those transfers really inspire me and make me think 'right, here we go!'. Howard is needed as the back up for Jay. Sadly, this shows Jones has no intention of changing our style of play. Hammill is the only other signing where I think 'yeah, he'll do'. Routledge isn't the player he was and I'm worried he won't perform as well for us. Loovens? Do me a favour, he's been terrible since he left and he doesn't even want to come back. Nick Montgomery? He's just a shit Oli!

Quite disappointed to be honest. Hoping for more intent by Jones, even if the Malaysians said no.

I think Howard has a fair few years left now, I'm sure he was late to professional football which does seem to prolong a players career :ayatollah:

Another route 1 carthorse for one dimensional Dave Jones  Sack him Tan before he screws our club right up

Re: " CARDIFF CITY and THE TRANSFER MARKET "

Give him two year contract but only as a pay as you play with a one year fixed pay deal.

Routeledge would be great addition.

Will evryone get off Jonesd back - becoming boring now .

Suppose QPR shud sack their manager as they have lost two in a row - crazy crazy !

Re: " CARDIFF CITY and THE TRANSFER MARKET "

Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:34 pm

I really hope a Centre Mid who breaks and scores goals is on his list. Despite Hudson and Naylor being shite that has been another major problem for me. Whitts has got deeper and deeper as the season has gone on to the point hes playing in front of the two centre backs. The same happened with Ledley last season it must be instructions from the manager.

Look at Andy King, he breaks fantastically from the middle of the park we dont have that and against blanket defences to break them down.

In Jones defence I feel he had Koumas lined up to do that job once he got fit :?

Re: " CARDIFF CITY and THE TRANSFER MARKET SO FAR "

Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:36 pm

Not for me

Can think of someone older and better and a proven record of scoring vital goals an that is Kevin Phillips - Thats the sort of signing I want to see at the city

Plus we need two defenders and someone with bollocks in the centre of the park such as a Bowyer of I remember right he came in in January and scored four or five vital goals including one against us and helped get them promoted

This is the problem with DJ - has certain transfer targets in mind and if dont get them keeps going back does not widen his paramiters hence why we only have a plan A

The Scottish press keep reporting that Celtic will sign him in January.

Re: " CARDIFF CITY and THE TRANSFER MARKET "

If the choice were mine I would be thinking along the following lines.......

The midfield is good. However, because of weakness within the Defence, the midfield is being asked to cover when they should be attacking. So I would accept Glenn Back. He knows our setup and has played alongside Gyepes before. I am also conscious that whilst things might not have worked out at Celtic he was recently named in Hollands 30 man World Cup Squad before becoming one of the unlucky 7. There are worse defenders in the Championship and I do like his style. He wins headers. He puts his foot in and he can pass the ball.

I also like the sound of that German Under 21 mentioned a few weeks ago.

I think McNaughton has to play left back, Darcy at Right Back, Gyepes and Glenn. That seems solid to me and should allow the midfield time to concentrate on attacking rather than defending.

Bellamy (LW) Burkey (RW) and then any two from Olifinjana, Drinkwater and Whittingham.

Up front I do have a concern. Chopra is not firing on all cylinders and I do wonder whether Bothroyd may go in January. My biggest concern though is because of Bellamy's speed there is often no-one in the box to cross to. We need somone up front who can match Bellamy's speed and, with this in mind, I would go for Michael Owen who is clearly not getting the games at Old Trafford. Arguably he is getting on a bit but I am sure he could do an excellent job in the Championship. I personally would prefer Michael Owen over Steve Howard. Owen has the Premieship mindset of Bellamy and certainly knows where the net is - even if he has lost that yard or two. I would look to sign Owen on a short term loan with a view to a permanent signing if we are in the Premiership next year. That way Owen knows he has the prospect of another season in the Premiership.

I would also look at Macheda. I like his style and if we were to get £4m+ for Bothroyd we could do worse than signing someone like him.

Just some thoughts.....

Michael Owen would be on too much money and I suspect the same situation with Macheda, with both signings being fanciful in my opinion!

With regard to McNaughton being moved to the left, I think that this would be a waste of possibly the best right back in the division!

He has not been the same player at left back, so if Naylor is deemed not to be up to the task, I would say to either try Quinn, or bring in a proper left footed player, to play there! :ayatollah:
