I've seen people driving with 16'' of snow on their roofs and bonnets, with hardly any space to see through the windscreen. Have seen a few near misses already

In fairness 6/7" of snow falling off a roof of the car when driving is a hazard. The punishment seems harsh but it doesnt take long to clear the top of your car

There are some very strange laws regarding snow throughout Europe and the former Socialist Countries. In Bulgaria you can drive around with 20 feet of snow on your roof, but have a few flakes on your brake lights and its the Gulag! You can also be fined/imprisoned for having a "dirty car" although I didn't manage to test that one prefering to do my "dirty" business elsewhere

Would be interesting to see if the police's burglary detection rates have gone up during the inclement weather. Doesn't take Inspector Morse to work out how to follow the footprints in the snow..............

I wouldn't agree. I have been driving for 4 years and only once been done by the police. If your caught doing something wrong, then you deserve to be done. So I don't understand why you are implying that the police will try to book anyone they can.
