" THERE IS A BIG WORRY WITH OUR PITCH "

Sat Dec 18, 2010 9:27 am

Our Pitch is not of the Same Standard as the Jacks or Watfords
Carl will update that more in Next Weeks update.

I Dont understand how they can get it Ready for the 2nd week running for Rugby(Last Week Newport Dragons played on it), But Yesterday They Never even Attempted to Clear it For CITY'S Game ?
Personally I Believe the game would of been attended by a Very Low Crowd, But they are working hard to get the Rugby on lol

I LOVE A GOOD DEBATE

It's a disgrace Annis, even the Ospreys game is on!!! :ayatollah:

Re: " THERE IS A BIG WORRY WITH OUR PITCH "

it's standard practice to leave a covering of snow on the pitch until as late as possible...it acts as insulation to keep out heavy frost....the roads around cardiff city centre are chaos right now....many fans from outside cardiff could not get here....in my opinion the best choice was to call off the game yesterday

I have to agree with Copier on this one! I was really looking forward to the game and it's a lucky break for Jones but with 12 inches of snow falling in 24 hours it was never going to be on! The pitch was ok but the stands and the roads were hazardous!

IN A LOT OF WAYS I Agree, UNTIL I HEARD THEY WERE TRYING TO GET THE RUGBY GAME ON IN THE SAME STADIUM.

There is hardly any snow here in Derby. Reading about it in Cardiff it sounds like a different world you are experiencing.

We are Ian, The Snow is Bad, But How Come the Rugby will prob go ahead in THE SAME STADIUM ?, thats Why I've Changed my Attitude.

Re: " THERE IS A BIG WORRY WITH OUR PITCH "

The rugby will probably still go on because there's less risk. They'll probably get about 2 thousand fans turning up. Where as if City played at least 10,000 would be turning up to watch he game, if not more. So there's more risk.

And before anyon moans at the club, remember England has barely been touched by snow so none of their Championship games would gt called off. And anyone remember that our game up in London against Arsenal was called off because of snow
Happens to all clubs. Somethings are ou of the clubs control

Health and Safety comes first I guess.

Had a terrible journey home yesterday afternoon. Had to get a tow from Hirwaun to Penderyn. (Rear wheel drive is shit)
So I would not attempt to make it today.
Anyway maybe we are carrying a few injuries and now we have more time to get them fit.
Regarding Coventry my worry is our boxing day record is not very good. Has anyone got any stats ?

Re: " THERE IS A BIG WORRY WITH OUR PITCH "

I gotta say living right by the stadium - not sure about the pitch but the roads that are normally viable are a little lethal thats the leckwith road/broad st/lawrenny ave/ sloper road areas normally these are gritted and no probs but the pavements are very very icey (i found that walking home at 1am from the pub :D ) so it would not be safe for everyone walking

So even if the car park is clear and accessible for the few hundreed rugby fans they have and park in the stadium - it will not be plausible for the thousands of fans the football brings for the surrounding ares to be safe

thas IMO

i got no clue at all about the pitch!!!! lol

They'll have more time to clear it up for tomorrow, and anyway, our game was called off due to the safety risk. The Blues only get 6,000 fans so there's not much of a risk due to the lack of people going to the area, so it's easier not to call off. Ther'll be more people in the retail park tomorrow than the Rugby.

Re: " THERE IS A BIG WORRY WITH OUR PITCH "

it is because under the rules of the competition that they are not allowed to postpone the rugby match this weekend - if our pitch/stadium is not playable then it has to be played elsewhere which is why the Dragons played at CCS last weekend.

Even if we had got our game on today- i think we'd have struggled to see 10,000 attend as I am in Pontprennau and even 4x4 are struggling up and down our hill and the buses are even bothering to come into Llanedeyrn and Pentwyn ! so I dread to think what it is like up in the valleys.

Regardless in state of pitch and surrounding areas , it was right to call it off for the fans travelling to the game.

And Like everyone is Saying, THere is Hardly any Fans for The Rugby

Re: " THERE IS A BIG WORRY WITH OUR PITCH "

called off for safety reasons, the rugby people have opened them selves to be sued now if any of people going there get injured. but football associations don't fancy paying it out or even chancing it, it like me now going there fallen over breaking my leg i could sue them for not making it safe etc.

don't think it do with pitch, rugby associations are different to football ones.

Apparently heineken cup rugby games have rules that state the games MUST take place even if they have to change venue. :ayatollah:

Annis, be fair - as you know, a huge proportion of our 20,000-odd average support comes from outside of Cardiff City centre.

If the snow is, as I'm hearing, anything near as bad as the stuff that caused the Sheffield United v Reading postponement a few weeks ago, then it is entirely understandable (on a moot point, the vast majority of the Pigs' support comes from inside the city).

Personally, I don't see the odd postponement in 23 to be much of a problem.

As for the peanut hugging, arse slapping bum bandits, well they only get about 4,000 and that's only when they decide to waddle down from the pub to sit in silence to witness a nothing game in the most boring sport history has produced.

Their game MUST be played this weekend, no matter what, as it's a European tie.

pointless having that type of pitch without having the lights that are suppossed to keep it in prime condition.
to my knowledge we still havent ordered them either
only at cardiff

Sheffield United have the lights, and undersoil heating - didn't stop them getting their game against Reading postponed.

dave that was to do with the surrounding area's and nothing to do with the pitch which is the same reason cardiffs game is off.
the lights are used to maintain and help the pitch recover quickly from wear and tear.

Ah apologies, I thought you were still on about the snow/ice!

In fairness, our pitch can't be that much of a problem, it was worse last year and we still finished 4th.
