Advice needed RE car scrappage

Thu Dec 16, 2010 6:53 pm

Basically, my car is knackered. Its not worth fixing it as it will probably cost just as much to fix it as its worth. Never been in this situation before so a bit unsure of what to do. Can't afford a new car so no point in trading it in under the scrappage scheme some garages are still offering. Is there anywhere in South Wales you guys would recomend touting it to?

Also, its stuck outside my mams house at the moment. Is it legal for me to get a friend to tow it back to Cardiff with their car or do I have to hire a tow truck?

Thanks in advance fellas.

Just scrapped a car myself.
Arrange for a licensed dealer to collect and you should get a minimum £100.They advertise in the ECHO and in yellow pages.Do not go to anyone who is not licensed to recycle.
No need to move car but you should be there when they collect.Make sure you have log book.Try and get him to sign yellow part of log book and you retain that for time being. Hw will need rest.
A Licensed scrappie has to issue certficate of destruction but obviously if they collect they will not give you one there and then.
If possible get certificate off scrappie within few days. If you get that there is no need to do anything else. If you don't have chance to get to scrap yard and just in case scrappie has not done his job properly, fill in yellow part of log book and send to DVLA.
;)
