The Return of Leon Jeanne

Wed Dec 15, 2010 11:26 am

Many City fans will no doubt recall the story of our former supremely talented but troubled winger, Leon Jeanne. Heraled as a future star he unfortunately threw away his career with some dubious choices. Since being banned from the game 7 years ago, due to failing a drug test, he has been in court, in jail, played for countless clubs, piled on weight and has also been treated for depression. Having now turned 30 Leon is incredibly on the verge of a sensational come back in the Football League. He has spent the last few months doing double sessions in the gym and has shed most of the weight he was carrying. He has realised that its now or never to achieve his potential and he's really going for it.

Bath City, in the conference, have taken a gamble on him and he made a spectacular debut for them on Saturday. With 20 minutes remaining Bath were 2.0 down so the manager threw Leon on. He proceeded to set up two goals and Bath won the game 3.2. The media in the southwest have called him a "genius" who is too good for that level. Since that display he has been contacted by clubs in the League who want him to attend pre season with them next summer when he is fully fit. After all he has been through, and at 30 years of age, it would be great to see him finally achieve his potential as there is little doubt he could still be one of the most exciting welsh footballers around!

I should have also said that if anyone is not going to the City game on New Years Day, and wants to see Leon continue his comeback, Bath City will be playing Newport County, a Newport, that day!

Oh please...

Bath City. In the conference.

"Dubious choices"?

The claim during the Priory sessions - paid for by the club - that he couldn't do the work as he couldn't read/write? The bs he pulled on his drugs test - escaping a lengthy ban on a technicality? His bs claim in a lads mag an unnamed England International Prem player got him into cocaine?

I don't known where you pasted that text from, but he wasn't banned... no club official was present at the test, hence he continued playing football...

Jimmy Gardner was really good in one game; just happened to be a game against us.

To be fair thats a touching farewell from the Club. I hope he
makes something in the handful of years he could have left
in football. I used to shake my head watching him bombing
round the estate on his mountain bike

I became good friends with Leon during his time at QPR through a mutual pal & I gotta say the kid had unbelievable ability & looked nailed on to make waves in the game. Highly rated by the club & during the few appearances for the first team showed what ability he had. Too much colombian marching powder & love of the London club scene soon saw him fall foul of the club.

Spoke to him a few months back & was in good spirits being a dad to his many kids.

Wish him well.

Possibly Taffy just said he was still in Wales & was hoping to get back into the pro game.

Besides Taffy if he had mentioned the area I wouldn't recognise one place from the next. I'm not too up on Welsh geography the only thing I know is that Newport is the capital of Cardiff :-)

2 great memories of him.

Cam on when we were 1-0 down to our perennial rivals at th time - Brighton. At home.

Jeanne cam on with 10-15 minutes to go and had their full back backpedalling 5 yards off him all the time. Eventually he put a beauty of a ball in from which we equalised - Earnie perhaps.

The 2nd memory was the FAW Cup final against the Jacks. Jeanne gave Howard their full back such a hard time that eventually Howard found himself sat on the floor whilst Jeanne danced past him again.

Skill and pace -what a waste.

It was Earnie-great piece of skill.

Waste of talent.

only remember seeing him once v swnsea faw cup 2002 and he was the best on the pitch. Shame he went down the wrong path.

He was playing in the 4 Walls Sunday League a season or two ago and was scoring 3-4 a game. I was gutted when he left because he was just starting to show promise. Still, a wasted talent is as valuable as no talent so I've just forgotten about him now. Glad he's getting back into the game.

Good luck to him. So, he's made a mistake or 2 in the past. Who hasn't? Everyone deserves to be given a chance

Article on Leon in today's Echo! If you look at the Bath Insider website their manager says his debut was spectacular and that Leon is a genius! The comeback is for real this time, in all honesty, if Leon was 100% fit he would still get in the City side, he's a fantastic talent who lost his way! We've all made mistakes and done stupid things but he has had a harder upbringing and more problems than most, and his mistakes have been highlighted in the media. Going to London at such a young age ruined him really but age and maturity have made him see the error of his ways! I'll be at Newport on New Years Day to cheer him on!
