FAWs motivation

What do you think the FAWs motivation was during the selection process for the recently filled managerial position?

I can't see it being anything other than money? Speed was surely a cheap or the cheapest option - he brings no managerial experience of any note to the position and actually leaves Sheff Utd (the only club hes managed) a place or 2 above the relegation zone.

I could be completely off the mark here, but have we witnessed today a direct indication of the FAWs lack of ambition and cowardly willingness to ride through the next couple of years with the objective of qualification to a major tournament attributed directly to blind hope/faith?

Or on the flip side, have they interviewed the other remaining candidates and were simply not impressed? Subsequently presenting an opportunity to a manager who probably knows the Welsh set up like the back of his hand as Wales' most capped outfield player, a manager who is effectively a Welsh role model and maybe most importantly benefits from being a very youthful 'age' - is this perceived to be the perfect fit to nurture a great crop of youngsters into a team that can actually push for qualification to a major tournament?

Jurys out for me...any thoughts?

I admire Speed for taking the risk so early in his managerial career. He is after all taking a massive pay cut to take the job on.
