Lars Lagerback would have been a superb appointment. But, as usual, the welsh FA seem to reckon we need a true Welshman in charge to have any kind of success, even though Lagerback has a proven track record in turning countries similar to us into competitive teams

He was a lot of peoples first choice before his Sheff United stint. I think he will do ok as long as the welsh public's expectations aint to high

He wouldnt have been my choice, but I guess Hes young and I cant knock his casuse to the country, Hardly ever missed a game for Wales. He 's trendy and young possibly the Welsh FA think he can look and hopefully coach like the German coach. We'll see where we go from here at least he's Welsh but I would have preffered a manager with more international experience possibly like that Swedish bloke they were after.

Is it true the FAW are giving Sheff Utd half a million in compensation ????

If it is it is scandalous. I am not saying Speed is bad - we don't know either way yet - but United were probably going to sack him soon anyway.

Worse still half a million pounds would have made a massive difference to the bread and butter clubs of Wales in the Welsh Premier / Welsh Laegue / Cymru Alliance etc.

I think he'll be good for ye. Sure, not great at club level, but he seems to have some of the attributes that you need to be an international manager, and he can't be a disaster tactically. I think he will be more Mark Hughes than say, Steve Staunton (what a disaster :o )

Largerback for me but the welsh fa didnt want to spend the money. Gary speed would of been sacked if he lost the next to games. Sheff UTD are rubbing their hands together have compo for him :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I can't see Speed lasting to long in the job TBH.

Lagerbeck for me too if I had my way. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Unless he can get some players back out retirement like Gabby we a short of a decent defence like City funnily enough time to find a mad patagonia arge who wants to international football at least he'll kick lumps out of england

Wales appoint manager who has lost fewer games than Jose Mourinho

The Wales football team has announced the appointment of Gary Speed as manager, pointing out that he has lost fewer games than Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho during his career.

Speed takes over as boss of his country with an enviable managerial career which includes just nine defeats, ever.

A Welsh FA spokesperson spoke of the appointment, telling us, “We scoured the planet for a manager with so few defeats that success on the International stage was a forgone conclusion.”

“Do you know how difficult it is to find a manager with a managerial record that includes total career defeats still in single figures? It’s almost impossible. Trust me on that.”

“The fact that he’s Welsh is just a bonus. With just nine defeats to his name we see nothing but success in the future of the Welsh football team.”

Gary Speed Wales Manager
Critics have suggested that although just nine defeats is quite good record, he has actually only won six games in his entire career.

Welsh football fan Gareth Williams told us, “I don’t want to put a negative spin on this appointment, but Sam Allardyce has won more games than Gary Speed, and that’s just since August.”

“I can’t help but think that just 18 games as a manager might leave a few gaps in his managerial education?”

The final word went to Welsh FA who said. “Look, Gary Speed has been in management for just the right amount of time required to run a footballing giant like Wales, everyone knows that.”
