Perspective & Reality

I think we all - as a group of fans - need to get a firm handle on both aspects tbh.

We could talk about DJ's arrogance; his post match 'spin'; failure to acknowledge the great support we apply to our great club; his tactics; his relationship with some of the players etc etc - thats the beauty of this great extension we have to the match day experience i.e. this forum - to share our opinions; to share knowledge; information etc.

However none of this really holds any relevance when DJ should only be judged on the end result - not of todays game, but the journey under his management. Under DJ we are 2nd in the Championship leading up to Crimbo where he is planning on strengthening to ensure we stay where we are come May.

Expectations levels are high and rightly so atm, we as fans can identify the opportunity and resource DJ and his staff have in acheiving promotion this year - a point in time they have manufactured themselves whichever way you look at it. What I find hard to digest at times is how that expectation level is then vented during 'tougher' times like today.

We need to remember where we've come from and the stature of teams we have in our league - to finish top 2 in this division is an acheivement I dont believe a considerable proportion of our fans quite understand the magnitude of. Irrelevant of what the pundits say there are quality players; managers; clubs and stadiums littered throughout this division and I for one am extremely pleased to see we are, where we are, at this point. I sincerely hope we dont abuse our position as fans and continue to transcend a negative message to the players from the stands when things are not quite going as we want to.

Dont get me wrong, Ill be first in there with everyone else and wouldn't f**k about if someone doesnt appear to pulling their weight, but everyone worked pretty hard today I think, and to those who were actually still in the stadium and still singing today when Keogh scored well done to you cus thats the type of support we need if we are to go up - I dread to think if we did go up and we were rock bottom what the atmosphere would be like. All just my opinions of course, and I dont mean to offend anyone...I'm just passionate like everyone else on here - if we are to go up we go up as one...BLOOOOOOOOOBIRDS :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

do you think that DJ announcing the need for new players in january is playing a big part in our poor performances?

Re: Perspective & Reality

Sun Dec 05, 2010 12:38 am

No because players would normally perform better to fight for their place in that situation

If I'm honest I don't, although I must admit I was slightly bemused when I read what DJ had said. If he just said we need to strengthen in defence and a target man and I don't think anyone would have reacted negatively to it at all - hes tried to make a 'statement' I think to the club; players; and maybe our rivals in the league, but it back fired a bit..

Managers wanting 're-inforcements' is part and parcel of the game....and the players know that. ;)

If they (the players) can't raise their performance levels to a required standard then it's only right that a manager worth his salt gets someone in who will....

As I said, part and parcel of football!! :)

Great post by the way.... ;)

That's probably the best ever post on this mb.
What's most disappointing is that judging by the posts on here it seems to be the older rather than the newer supporters who are dong the booing and calling for DJ to be sacked.

As an older 'boo'ing' supporter who has just vented his anger at Jones on another thread... your words struck
home. Im personally disappointed in a few of Jones' loan signings, I'm disappointed that he believes he needs
FIVE players to get promoted. I'm disappointed that rather than him having a 'buck stops here' attitude, his is
more of a "dont you DARE blame me" attitude.

I disagree about 'abusing our position as fans'... We are paying customers, if we are not happy with what we
see, we are entitled to say so!!

BUT... your also very right. Right now, even though we are all angry with a lot thats going on... perhaps
its time we bit our tongues for a while and just hope the players can figure a way out of this slump. Because
I dont think a reversal of fortunes will be down to good managemant by DJ

Calling for DJ to be sacked is completely over the top if you ask me - we've got consistency of policies; direction; style; culture and players base at the club now - whether we like the manner of it all or not...that is an aspect the majority of the clubs in our division ( and football in general) are striving for - I believe we're pretty lucky to be honest.

Lets hope it happens this season...and what a celebration it will be if it does happen! :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

every team has a blip at some time
not that long ago QPR won only one out of six, now they are back on form
we are 2nd and considering some of the summer singings haven't really worked out (Koumas, Keogh, Naylor) you have to give the manager credit for that

one good result should change things

You of course have a point, however our season will not be based or judged on our last three home games...our judgement will be formed on how we react to the losses of form you highlight.

The league has proven so far this season you can still sustain a high position when you hit a bad run, we need to now have the personality and guile to turn it around and I firmly believe we have the players to do that.

You take out the stand out drop downs from the Premiership last season (Newcastle and West Brom) and we finished in effectively the same position we are in now - there are no stand out drop downs this year we are unable to compete with so we are more than capable of staying where we are under DJ's jurisdiction. We had similar losses of form last year remember and turned it around. Keep the faith I say :ayatollah:

like annis i stayed for 95 minutes and then a further 15 after the game,i didnt boo but laughed at times at football that was at best park stuff, what we as fans dont understand is how a team of mainly premiership players(or very capable of being their)can play so painfully bad, with what appears to be a total lack of commitment.when people behave as city have done in recent weeks i feel that all is not well behind the scenes, and at the end of the day we are the paying public and deserve to see a team win, lose or draw play to 100% of there ability, again win lose or draw but we want commitment that is sadly lacking for whatever reason from this team :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
