Just read a good write up of him and Scott Dann. Birmingham manager Mcleish brough both players from the championship and within 18 months have bothed gelled into one of the strongest central defences in the premier. It just goes to show what you can do with a team when you have the central defence sorted out. Birmingham have made themselves a good mid table premiership side and this many claim is all due to the 2 central defenders. A defence that is difficult to break down and this is shown by the lack of goals they have let in.
Over the last 2 full seasons we have had to sell our best central defenders, one being Johnson and the other Loovens. Of course if we were in the premier this would have never happened. It just makes you wonder if it would be us established in the premier instead of Birmingham if we had not reached the cup final when both players were our no 1 defenders in their respective positions. I still believe today that cup run prevented us at least reaching the play offs that season.
If I have to give DJ sympathy over anything its perhaps this where he has had to sell. Its not just Johnson he has had to sell but players like Gabbidon, Cameron, Collins who have established themselves in the top tier. What other championship has had to sell so much and lost out to premier sides? Watching Johnson tonight on Sky and reading about him earlier where he has asked the question to his manager what he has to do getinto the England squad, well it just makes me wonder where we as a club could be if we coold have only got out of this division.

You can throw Ramsey into the equation too!

Earnshaw! The most underrated and mis-used Premiership striker of all time! Bryan Robson single handed ruined his career.
